Got these lovely ladies from the local Jax Mercantile this past weekend!

2 Buff Orpingtons
2 Barred Rock
2 Red Star (Red sex link)

Will be picking up 4 Easter Egger girls tomorrow!

The kids and I are having a ball with these ladies!

Anyone use the Deep Litter Method? Pine shavings or straw or what? Looking at these pine shavings I'm using in the brooder box, I was wondering if they might also work for the walkways in our soon-to-be established raised bed garden?

Cute chicks! I got 24 new babies in September. When I first got the chicks I housed them in a big old empty watering trough (2.5 feet wide by 4 feet long). I put down some newspaper and spread hay from the barn on top of that. I cleaned this out every 3 days or so and added this to my compost pile. This fall I'll put this mess back into my veggie garden soil! Some thing just take time....LOL

Have fun with the babies............

Oh, I want some so bad now. They are too cute. I miss my BR girls. I will be getting Buffs, too. Have fun with them and don't spoil them TOO much.

I forgot to say that I always dump the litter mess in the gardens for fertilizer. Good stuff!
