My catalog came today!! Can't wait till spring. I'd love to order early but the earlier I order, the more work it is keeping them warm. We always buy Rhode Island Reds and then another breed just to try. Seems like we always go back to Rhode Island Reds. A couple of years ago we had Araucanas and 1 Araucana rooster. The roosters would fight and the RIR would beat the tar out of the Araucana. Awful thing to watch. Finally gave away the Ara. So, this year I am going to get a few Barred Rocks and RIR. Problem with that is, I'll not know who is laying and who is not. Just so the eggs are brown. I can get more $ from brown eggs. City people are so gullable.

Do any of you have Black Australorps? I had ordered a batch of mixed chicks once and got some of the black australorps in there. I fell in love with them since they were so beautiful and gentle! We live in town now so no chickens but if I was able to get chickens I would be sure to have some of those! I actually liked the roosters better than the hens.

Lillian, I don't have a Deleware Rooster, but I might order one, since my Buff is older. He's so gentle and handsome, I really like him and always planned on another Buff rooster until I got the Delawares...now I am curious and want a Delaware.

I got mine a few days ago too. I want to order chicks for about March 1 delivery. It will for sure be 25 mixed bantams...I like the variety....and then I will let each of the kids pick a breed (bantams) that they would like and I will order two of each..just for a fun thing for them. I have always ordered from McMurrays.

OOOOH Dalyn, I will be checking out your Buff Rooster. When we ordered we got 13 Deleware and 12 Buff and of coarse the mystery chicken that turned out to be an Aracana Roo. He went away real quick. We only lost 1 and it was sickly to start out with, my husband is sure that it was the Buff rooster that he was hoping would be in the bunch. Do you have a Deleware Rooster? Ours is absolutly goregous!!!! Probably won't buy any more this year, but you never know....

I have Buff Orpington and Delawares too! LOVE them. Also have Light Brahma, another great breed, and 1 barred rock. I got my catalog too and poured over- finally decided on more of the Buffs and Deleware (they are an heirloom breed) as well as Royal Palm turkeys, which I have wanted to do for a couple years now anyway. I have pictures of quite a few of my hens and my Buff Rooster on my blog right now *U*

I got mine today too and I just love it. I sat and looked at it with my grand daughter and it is just like looking at an encylopedia of chickens. I just love it....

Love McMurray's. We have Buff Orphingtons and Delewares from them. Can't wait to get the catalog for this year.
