Posted - Jan 08 2009 : 06:52:41 AM Well, it has happened. Blanche has gone broody. Boy, is she going to be disappointed when nothing hatches. Anyway, I take the eggs, remove her from the nest box, place her outside in the pen or the yard and lock her out. She just sits her chubby little self down and will not move. So, I move her further away, where she will finally eat and drink a little bit. How long does this last? She gives me such a scolding when I open the door to the hen house! It really is funny, but I don't want her to waste away for something that isn't going to happen. Any advice?

Posted - Jan 08 2009 : 4:47:25 PM Thanks, Lillian. Yep, she's not laying now. The last egg came two days ago. At least the other four are still giving us eggs! Good night, if they all go broody, I'm sunk!!

Posted - Jan 08 2009 : 2:24:53 PM I haven't found the magic cure for broodieness. They just 1 day pop out of it. Usually takes 3-5 weeks depnding on how "dedicated" they are. Your hen won't lay eggs for a while either, I have 4 broody hens right now and am really missing the eggs!
