Is it that if an animal is going to get out its always when hubby is at work? The boys and I had to go out and chase down Mr Pig and get him back in the pen after tearing a side down to get him back in then replace the board with a new one! Whew I'm cold and tired! But at least he didnt go eat the neighbors yard like the last one did!
Blessings, Karen

Not too many days after we moved here last spring, our dog got scared by some noise made from a testing site for the U.S. Gov't -- what I didn't know was that said dog, could also pop open the back storm door by bumping it with her nose. I heard the storm door slam shut, an' immediately ran to the back door...to have that sinking feeling hit like a ton of bricks.

Noah went out on his bicycle to try & find Sara -- I looked all over our dirt road, in our woods. Nothing. I didn't know what to do, an' since we were new, I didn't even know who to ask for help.

Tom came home 'bout an hour into the time that the dog was missing...an' HE was the one who found her..she was sitting in our next door neighbors yard, looking at tom's car like she was waiting for him to pick her up. Noah rode his bike right up to the car, just in time to see the dog hop in, and sit up Very Upright in the passenger seat, like she was all ready to go shopping or something. "Just like she knew it was all just peachy..."

I, on the other hand, was beside myself. Upset, angry, scared. The dog came in the house when tom let her out of the car, like she'd just made a grand appearance at opening night at the Met. Once Tom & Noah told me what happened, I had to go lay down. No wonder my last good nerve is shot...

That's a Murphey's Law for farms & ranches!
For us it's usually the goats, but it used to be two colts that knew how to undo the chain around the pasture gate. They would let ALL thehorses out and the neighbor's would either call or round them up and bring them home if I was gone. Rotten rascals!

Sounds familiar! Only MY husband is less help when he's here than when he's not! His own dog even runs aways from him all the time, (something DH taught him when he was a puppy!) I can usually catch him much easier. The secret is COOKIES!!! He LOVES horse cookies! ALL of my animals do. Food usually does the trick around here when someone (or a BUNCH of someones!) are not where they should be.

Though, I did have a bit of a hairy situation here a week or so ago when 3 lambs got out and, before I could catch them, ran right down the middle of the road ahead of a line of traffic! (Stupid people didn't even SLOW DOWN!!!) Thankfully the lambs zipped right into the driveway and wedged themselves nicely into a spot where I could easily catch them. (although NOT without a fight-- as the bruises I have will attest) Moments like that are rare, but they do happen on occasion. My own fault since I never taught them better manners with BRIBERY like I have their elders! (and all the other critters they share the pasture with) ~~~

It's that always the case???

My dog gives us the slip every now and then, so I know the feeling about the pig and your own dog.

It's especialy bad now that hunting season is in full swing.

Karen, happens alot here, too. At least you had the boys to help. I usally have it by myself. I think I finally got my pigs contained. I put rebar all along the bottom of the chain link fence. They haven't escaped in a few weeks now. I probably shouldn't have said anything. They just have til Jan. 14, then off they go to the butcher!!! I can't wait! I'm ready for a nice juicy pork chop. MMMMMM, GOOD!

Hope you're warmed up by now. It is nasty out there, huh? Been raining here all day.

Isnt it so try? It is like those silly animals know that if they tried to make the break when the hubbies were around they would end up in the freezer sooner...For some reason they seem to know that they just might get away with it with us!

Our dog has been doing that lately. I got to watch him almost get SMASHED by a car. I've even tried getting hubby on the speaker phone on my cell and getting him to call MAX. isn't that a stinker when they escape? I bet Mr Pig was laughing his butt off!

Karen,
That is just the way it always is. It's when hubby's not there to give you a hand. Now take a break and drink a nice cup of tea to warm you up.
