Hi girls! I was talking with some other farmgirls about going to a poultry show this wknd. It was really neat. I got to see a lot of different breeds of chickens. Some of them weird, and a lot not.
I DID see Blue Orpingtons. However, they did not look well to me. Maybe stress from coming in from Illinois...not sure. I still want one, but am thinking of crossing a Black with a Blue to see what happens. Since I have no roo's at home I will have to call around for this.
I did see a Blue Penciled Red Lace Wyandotte. It was the only one there and it was really pretty. It was more white than what I've seen before, the ones with darker blue on the feather patterns really stand out.... nonetheless, this was a remarkable bird.
I did not buy anything as I was not prepared for the cost of birds. At the hatchery, we specialize in chicks so I am used to a $2-$3 range for birds....not $40 a bird....
So I networked and got some info... as soon as these breeders get home and get settled, I will start to make calls on getting blue orps and then I will post here to let you know where to get them, or I will get them and sell/ship them to you.
If you ever get a chance to go to one.... I highly suggest it. Its very informative!
