Several months ago hubby & I rescued a beautiful gold tabby kitty, and she ended up being hubby's 'office cat'. He named her Goldie, and proceeded to spoil her rotten...automatic litter box, auto feeder & waterer, cat condo, toys, etc.

Over the weekend she quit eating and slept almost nonstop, so on Monday hubby took her to the vet. They gave her antibiotics for a respiratory infection, and then ran bloodwork. Early this morning the vet called and informed us that Goldie had advanced feline leukemia and also FIV(feline aids), and then told us that he thought she should be put down so she doesn't suffer. So, we both held and petted Goldie as they euthanized her.

I am sorry you lost your friend. I had a cat that had not lost weight or anything unusual other than he started staying in the house and sleeping - I knew something awful was wrong and he tested positive to the two same things your cat did, I put him down even though it was hard to accept when he had not looked sick per say.
I just had another cat test positive for feline aids but not leukemia - they say with just the feline aids they have a better chance of a long survival although their immune systems are delicate.
I am sorry for your loss..............

I'm so sorry for your loss Diana. It's always so hard to lose a cherrished little fur friend, no matter how long (or little!) a time they have been in your life. Her last days were so blessed by you and your husband. If only all God's creatures could be treated with such love and kindness. Hugs to you ~~~ Tracy

My heart goes out to you both. A pet is a valid member of the family and their passing does hit you hard. I hope that you both know that you opened up your home and heart for a special friend in need. You also helped to make her days filed with love and companionship.

Bless you,

Madelynne

Diana, you and your hubby are very special people to take Goldie in and give her such a wonderful life. I had to put one of my cats down for the same reason several years ago. Know that you both gave her a something very precious and if you'd not rescued her, her last days could have been a much different story. Take comfort in the joy that you brought to her life and she brought to yours.

God bless -

I'm so sorry Diana for your loss. My cat was a rescue cat too and she is spoiled rotten. I can't imagine how hard that must have been. I will keep you in my prayers.

Diana, I'm so sorry for the loss of your kitty. How lucky she was though to have been adopted by you before she became so ill.

I am so sorry about your little kitty. It sounds like she was very much loved and spoiled - I'm sure she knew that, too. It isn't easy to lose a dear pet. I still miss my cat from over a year ago. Sigh.

Goldie was lucky to find you and to spend her last days cherished and well taken care of. I had to have a little kitty put down last year. It was heartbreaking. These sweet animals that capture our hearts, they are a gift...
