It was an honest mistake, but my son forgot to secure the gate to the paddock, and our minis took full advantage of their freedom. Not sure if their adventure began last evening or this morning, but we got a call from neighbors this morning stating that our boys had been sited by others about 1 mile away. We found them 1 1/2 miles away. I'm so thankful for connections. Had one family not know that another family might know who owned these travelers, our search could have carried on for hours - not knowing which direction to begin. Goldie and Dakota are now safe at home, their bellies full. My sweet boy will hopefully always check and double check the chained gate, and four of us feel a little refreshed after all of the exercise, fresh air and heightened emotions that accompanied the morning.

I'm reading this and giggling! Such stories that sound just like my day to day life here! I've had to hunt down our pony twice this summer and he doesn't leave a trace as to how he gets out! This afternoon I drove in the driveway and he was leaning so far over the fence he had it all messed up - needless to say I plugged the fence in and when I hollered at him he went running! (must have known he was being naughty!)

That is to funny! A couple of weeks ago I was at work and received a frantic phone call from my neighbor that our goats were in the road. So I rush home and there they are across the road at my neighbors house. Everyone was outside and my mean old Buck was chasing my neighbor around a bush! I was so embarresed. I thought I never would get them suckers back down to the barn. We finally had to put the buck into a cage and take to the livestock auction because as soon as we would put him up, he was right back in the yard. Crazy animals! But I love them!

I've loved reading your stories here. Yesterday, after the adventure, the boys slept the day away - giving their bellies a break to. Seriously, I think they ate themselves thru the neighborhood!

We also had a horse who got through barb wire and never even left a trace of hair on the wire. We finally saw him--he put his head through first then one leg after another and zip he was through--then he was confused and wanted back in and couldn't figure out how. Horses!! MB

OH, that clever horse, and clever you for stopping it. I just love the baby goat story. It's like a scene from a movie where you just know there isn't going to be a happy ending, and then to find her under a bucket?! Whew! What a relief. I just wish all the stories had cuddly endings.

Connie I know what you mean - my neighbors horses are loose about every other week - after three years now I stop assisting. When I tried to talk with them about how maybe they could fix the problem - she got very cranky and stated it was none of my business - so IT IS NONE OF MY BUSINESS...

we have all been there done that havent we? so happy you got them back safe and sound! many years i had a mare that would escape thru a triple strand of barbed wire and i took us a long tieme to figure out just how she did it. she would sidle up to the fence, put her legs thru carefully one at a ime then sidle over further repeating the legs and walk straight along the fince! we never could find tracks that were obivous. we fixed that with a strand of hot wire and she never got loose again! lol. i did spend alot of time chasing the neighbors hrses who got out about 3 times a week. grrr peace connie in alaska |

Oh My gosh! I hate that feeling! We used to have a dog that would get out and running around looking for her was always terrifying (She liked to chase cars). Glad everyone is home safe and sound!

I think that all of us animal loving groupies have lost a pet or two for awhile. Mine was our dog. He would escape all the time. He has since pasted but those are the moments we can now look back on and laugh about.

Ann I am so glad that you little ones where found and O.K.
Michelle I know that feeling - this winter in the middle of one of our horrible ice and snow storms I went into the Goat Birthing Barn and could not find one of the newly born kids. Frantically I called her name (they really do answer to their name) and nothing, I tore the barn apart then in sheer panic I noticed tiny foot prints outside- I was screaming her name but with the wind howling so bad my words were lost. As tears started to stream down my face and my heart racing all of a sudden I hear this tiny cry - there she was - in the barn and a bucket had fallen on her and she was trapped inside. I lifted the bucket and cries from that tiny girl came pouring out. Needless to say I picked her up and did not put her down until we both had huged and snugged for sometime. I swear that took two years off my life.

My heart about stopped just yesterday afternoon for the same reason. I was limbing trees in the pasture, and when I came up over the hill I saw the gate open and my 5 mo. old colt was gone! I know that sick feeling you must have had. I'm glad you found them safe and sound. As I was running to the gate, DH and the colt came around the haystack...DH had taken him for a walk on the lead around a different part of the property outside the fence. I was just glad he was safe.
