Never has a cow had so many "aunties"! Hope Mona is doing well today! It is so neat that she likes to have you near to her.

Jenny, that's sweet that Mona knows you're going to help her. She knows contact with you always makes her feel better (milking)!

Alee - when Jenny started this thread I was thinking about the first calf that Mona had and how long we all waited. It seemed like forever!! I can't believe that it's been 3 years.

Nope..Mona wants to be right where I can see her I think. Both times she has calved on a sunny afternoon about 3pm in her little sleeping barn. She paced back and forth to the fence both times until I was out there and then settled in the straw in her barn to calve. Of course I was checking on her hourly at that point both times. It WAS much easier with a due date last year than that first year. This year too...much easier to have a date to shoot for. My sheep always go to the far end to lamb too. And you know what...with all the years I have had a few sheep I have only been there for one lambing..the sheep are sneaky and go out of sight and usually at night. The one time I was there was because the ewe had problems with having a BIG ram lamb and I had to help. Mona has had easy deliveries so far so I am hoping for that again. But I do think she likes me to be there. At least I like to think so.

Does Mona go to the far end of the pasture to calve? That's what all of my ewes do...gotta find the furthest place from everyone else. How fun, a fall baby.

I remember I kept checking to see the Mona updates! That was the year I was working at the ranch I think and we were on foal watch so I knew a bit of what you were going through!

I think it was more like 4 months. I got her at the end of October 2005 and the guy said he thought November, but FOR SURE before Christmas....and it was March 2!! I don't think I got a full nights sleep for 4 months!! But she is worth it. Hard to believe that was 3 years ago now!!

Actually that reminds me of her first calving a few years ago when you first got her. Remember the old owner wasn't sure when she was going to calve? We were on Mona Watch for what 3 months?

Great pics of our favorite bovine, Jenny! She's so wide I can barely see her friend the goat! :)
