Ok so I go to do up some dishes this morning and I go to grab my dish rag and remember I had a dream about my dishrag I remember throwing it out. So while standing at my sink I am trying to think why I would have thrown out my dishrag in my dream?while carefully picking it up,Out pops a Black Widow Spider!!!!!! How weird is that. The only thing I can think of how it got there is I put a plant in the sink that I brought in from the night before. But to dream something was wrong with my dishrag is just to bizarre. I would have normally just grabbed the rag and probably been bit.
I guess the good lord was looking out for me.

Very cool and interesting about the dream. Someone was looking out for you.
and about brown recluses. i'm always afarid to stick my arms or legs in coats and coveralls that have been hanging up in the off seasons
have any of you seen those pictures on the internet that shows a guys hand half eaten away by one of those bites?? It's pretty graphic
I'm going to tuck away that apple cider vinegar remedy. that's cool too! and yea, city slickers.......go figure

We kinda did it in a pinch. All I used was a folded up paper towel and put apple cider vinegar on it. If it seemed to be drying out, I added more apple cider vinegar. It wasn't dripping, as he had to hold it to his neck without it running down his arm. We could definitely see results after about 2 hours. If he had come to me first, I could have saved him the ER charges. But by all means, if needed, seek medical attention. This is not a replacement for medicine. It worked in place of incompetent doctors. Everyone should check out apple cider vinegar, it has many uses, from cleaning to athlete's foot. Yes, it helps that, too. I believe that for any natural ailment, there is a natural cure here on this earth. We just have to find it. Something like if you get poison ivy (natural ailment), there is wild touch-me-not (jewell weed)as a cure for it. It will get rid of it overnight. Just something to keep in the back of your mind, in case you need it, as we did.

Laura, that is just weird! Yep, pay attention to those dreams in the future. Glad you didn't just grab that rag. I'd be double checking that plant, too.
Becky, I'd also be interested in how to make that poultice as we also have brown recluse spiders here.

That is amazing Becky. How wonderful you knew what to do. I have heard that brown recluse bites acutally eat away at the skin, hence the big open wound. Exactly how did you make the poultice? I would like to know if I ever need to make one. Apple cider vinigar - how much and is there anything else? HOw often do you refresh the vinegar?

My oldest son was bitten by what we think was a brown recluse. After a couple of days, it was getting worse. He went to the ER, they didn't know what it was. They gave him two shots in the rear and sent him home. Then he came to see me. He was bitten on the right side of his neck. It had reddened and was swollen down into his chest. And painful. A hole had formed big enough to stick his pinky finger in. I made a poultice with apple cider vinegar he sat there and talked to us while holding the poultice on the bite. After about two hours I checked it. The vinegar had begun to pull the infection and poison out. He kept it on throughout the evening and some the next day. It began healing, the swelling and pain went away. It left a scar. But atleast it was healed. The vinegar done more than those city slicker doctors who didn't know a spider bite when they saw it.

I went online and learned a lot about them. It is the young ones who are different in color, and perhaps their venom is not as strong. If you wonder about, do some research. I also read their webs are real strong but messy, not a symetric work of art like other webs. That was how the one on the garbage can was, real sticky and ugly. They also almost always hang upside down. There are slightly different types in different parts of the country.
Susan, I am so glad you saw it in the garage door. That was a blessing too.
My granddaughter got bit on the tushy by an unknown spider, and my daughter helped her in the bath one night and about fainted when she saw it. I am not kidding, the bite was about 3 inches across and purple. It took forever to heal, and left a little red scar for a year. She had been swimming at a public pool earlier in the day, and who knows where she got the bite. She was too little to really describe much, about 3 years old at the time. When I saw the bite my stomach just dropped. But thank heaven, and I really do thank heaven, it slowly got better each day. We did not have to have anti-biotics.
I guess you can tell, I am not a big fan of spiders, even though I know they have their own place in the world! :)

I rolled up the garage door a day or so ago and saw something like a mini pinata dangling from the middle of the door. Yes, a black widow. Usually I will relocate spiders to a more appropriate location (outdoors) but I squished this one. Thanks Jeannie for the remark about garbage cans - I usually roll them out when I'm half asleep on garbage day and never look at the handles.

That's a bit eery and, thankfully, you had a "prompting" dream to warn you. My daughter was bitten by an unknown spider a year ago. She developed a huge blister and what looked like a "target" around the blister. I took her in to th ER and they couldn't figure out what type of spider bit her BUT she had to take antibiotics and antihystamines for 14 days. It also left an ugly scar. I thought it was a black widow or brown recluse but, not being from Idaho, I don't know how prevalent they are here. You are so blessed that no one got bitten! I also hate these weird "stubby" and hairy spiders that jump that we have here. They are just about as bad as ants have been this year.

Wow, Laura. Thank heavens you remembered your dream. I'm going to look up a picture of a black widow. I don't pay enough attention to anything when I'm weeding or just doing anything at the farm. I'm just oblivious and focused on working. I had no idea they could be green.

What an amazing story! God was definitely at work in that!
Our family recently had an experience with a black widow too! And once again, thank God no one was bitten. My son-in-law rolled their garbage cart out to the curb at night in the dark for pick-up the next day. The next morning, I drove into their driveway, and saw what looked like a big blueberry hanging from the garbage can. When I went closer, it scrambled up in to the handle of the can. Later, it came out again, and we saw it was a huge black widow. She was living in the handle of the can. They almost never come out in daylight, so the fact that I spotted it at all was a miracle in itself. Well, we carefully opened the lid of the cart, and there she was hiding in a corner. We sprayed her a lot and she dropped to the ground. Then we stomped on her.
I read online that adolescent black widow spiders are not black yet, but a shade of green. So inspect your plant for a web and any eggs. We did that on the can, thinking there be more around in the early stages of life.
