My friend A. just left, she came over for a chat and a sweet word.
Elvis was running around the livingroom, on the windowsill throwing my pretty pink vase off, etc. NO it was not broken, PTL.
My friend A. told me: "does he ever go outside now?"
Told her no, because I was afraid he might run off.
She told me to just try to let him out in the backyard, because that one is fenced and he might not get over it.
SO we opened the backdoor and just stood in the kitchen to see wether he would go out.
And he did! He just looked at first, a bit afraid of all the new things he saw.
He ran in and out again.
Friend A. and I went inside to finish our coffee and just let him play.
He came in and saw us sitting there and walked out. Ran in the yard, played with the shrubs, sniffled on every thing, ran after butterflies etc. Just had a WHALE of a time 
Friend A. told me this might be better for him. He knows what his home is, where he gets his food and drink, his potty and his love.
SO I will do this again tomorrow and just have some quiet time now.
Might be able to read a magazine without him jumping ON the mag, lol
Might even have the time to do some knitting 
He is now asleep, tired I guess from all the new things he saw.

Cats seem to know where their food comes from!
A few years ago a friend gave us her older cat who'd never been outside. I was ok with that. About 3 months later she acted like she wanted out. I let her go and didn't see that darn cat for 3 days. I thought she'd left us. Then I heard her at the window and let her back in. She didn't go outside for several months after that. Now she is in and out all day. Sometimes she stays out all night.
I don't worry too much about her now. She's laying in my bedroom window at the moment. Cats are something else, aren't they?

It is so wonderful to watch a cat discovering his territory, I love to watch them sniffiing, jumping, climbing, etc. I can't let my kitties outside here because there are too many wild animals, too much traffic on my back road. i used to let my cats out at the house I lived in before this one, but lost several kitties when we moved here If you have a fenced yard, that does make a difference. You and Elvis sound like a good team!
One thing you might think about is getting Elvis a pal, two kitties have so much fun and then you might get a chance to knit all by yourself! My kitties always like to check out anything that involves thread or yarn...

Just want to add: I never ever had a pet before, so this is all new to me. Silly maybe, but was just afraid he might wander off and not find his way back home. DUH!!
