So my husband and I have talked about getting chickens since we bought our house 4 years ago - we have about 3/4 of an acre and have room for a large garden and chickens. It is part of our moving towards being as self-sufficient as possible. It is looking like next year is going to be the year where we get it together. Well I assumed this would be one of those projects where my husband put in the initial construction labor and then it sort of would land in my lap. I ordered a catalog from MacMurray hatchery a couple of weeks ago and lo and behold my husband caught the chicken bug!! He has drawn 5 sets of blueprints for a chicken coop and made about 19 different lists of combinations of chickens and also read and reread two books on chickens and one on chicken coops. I haven't seen him this excited about anything since he started fly-fishing - go figure!!

My husband loves our chickens and I laugh at how he talks to them. He grinds them corn for a chicken treat in our coffee grinder! I love to watch him with them it just endears him to me all the more.

I just placed an order with McMurray. 2 silver laced wyandottes, 2 red stars, and 2 anconas to go with our 2 black australorps, 2 araucanas, and 5 assorted bantams. (and 25 'frying pan specials, but they won't be around too long). I can't wait until the end of October when they arrive!

We live on .21 acres in downtown coeur d'alene, and we have plenty of room for chickens and gardens! I'm sure you folks will do fine :-D

That's kind of like what Doug is like. Though he did have fun setting up the greenhouse, so he does have the chance to be redeemable!

My husband starts getting this look in his eyes like his brain is shutting down the minute i mention anything animal! It's really funny. I can actually see it happen. And when he calls and i start to say something about an animal, I can hear it happen,. He just says "yeah, uhhuh" He cracks me up. Sometimes I do it just to see it happen. You're lucky you have an exitable husband.
Although one tome he kind of thought he'd like to start raising bees and I got several books and articles on the subject. That lasted a few hours.
He is a great truck driver, though!

lol Me too Alee! lol My husband laughs at me. However, he will go along with every thing and anything I want. BUT, at the same time, isn't too enthusiastic about it! lol haha
