Posted - Sep 07 2008 : 05:40:15 AM I went yesterday to get 4 little pigs. I have been thinking about this for awhile now and it's been a few years since the last 2. So I wanted them to put out in my front garden to eat all the leftover produce stuff and root it up for me. Then I'll put them outback where the goats are (after I move them up front this winter) and let them root around all the stumps. It's a great plan on paper but pigs will be pigs. And when they get bigger than me they tend to do whatever they want. So the guy I got them from raises his on pasture so they are used to it already. And his butcher says the meat is a lot leaner than meat from contained pigs. So right now I'm exited but that could all change really soon and they could all be gone quicker than planned. Has anyone ever used a mobile slaughterhouse? |

Good luck! |

Posted - Sep 07 2008 : 07:52:40 AM I'm not sure about a mobile slaughterhouse; but it sounds interesting! I hope your pigs will be far away from your house; I thought mine was far enough away, but the stink is so powerful I can smell it in my bedroom sometimes.... :( I don't think I will be getting pigs again, it actually has turned out to be fairly expensive for us and SO SMELLY! Your 'free range' pig plan sounds like it would work better then our pigpen, though. Good luck!
