Posted - Sep 03 2008 : 03:19:51 AM I came into this world a little bud on a Montana farm. At a fairly early age I was scooped up and swept away to the bustle of metropolitan Seattle. Upon landing I begged my parents to let me have chickens (which were perfectly legal) but it was clear they had intended to leave farm life behind them for good.
Instead I was provided two cockatiels and a conure a friend no longer wanted. Looking back on it, I find it hard to believe my parents would trade the quiet clucking and egg producing qualities of chickens for the screaming, chewing, indoor mess that are parrots. (don't get me wrong, I have 7 cockatiels now I love the boogers)
I can't help but think how much happier we all would have been with chickens instead. At the very least we would have gotten a lot more sleep!!
Now I am in North Idaho, and I again have my beloved poultry. Each day I am amazed at how much joy these outdoor birds bring me.
