Kim- I slice them into 1/4 inch slices and place them in the dehydrator until they are dry. They aren't crisp- just kinda rubberie. I keep them in an air tight container for about 2 weeks because by then they are all eaten up.

Lillian, do you dry the sweet potatoes, if so how? How long do they keep and where do you store them?

Thank you ladies for the recipes, I am sure Harley and Moo will love them. I am looking for a cat cookie cutter, that way they can eat 'scaredy cats'!

I make all of my dogs "scooby snacks". I have many recipes but one of the easiest is the peanut butter biscut.

1 cup PB (try to use all-natural)
1 cup milk
1 Tablespoon baking powder
2 cups whole wheat flour

Mix all together until stiff dough forms, put onto floured board and roll out to desired thickness and cut out into shapes. Bake at 325 about 20 mins.

For my dogs I use a pizza cutter to make cubes the size I need.

I have more recipes that I will dig out later if you want.

Also another farmgirl said that she dries sweet potatos for her dogs, I tried it and it works great! We have replaced the chicken strip dog treats with sweet potatos.

I make my own from time to time too, or for a gift for someone who gets a new dog sometimes I give a jarful. I have a little bone shaped cutter. My dogs don't care about the shape but they ARE cuter. My recipe is nearly identical to Starmeadow's so I won't repeat it. I ALWAYS use the bacon drippings and I always add the garlic and dry milk powder..and I dont' use white flour...all wheat.
have fun!

Well, I make my own sometimes. It's kinda more like a cracker. I've taken to buying my dog
snacks from a local student group. All the students are developmentally disabled and it's their business. They named it after their therapy dog, Lacey. I pay $3 a bag (about a pound) and my big dog just LUVS them! That bag starts a rattling and he comes a running! It helps them out and I don't have to slave over a hot stove. But here's my recipe...

2 c whole wheat flour
2 c white flour
3/4 c corn meal
4 TBLsp vegetable oil
2 c boiling water
4 bouillon cubes

Mix up the dry.
Mix up the wet.
Add together and mix.
Roll, cut, bake at 300 degrees for 30 minutes.

I sometimes use bacon drippings/or olive oil instead of veggie oil.
And, sometimes I add wheat germ &/or brewer's yeast.
And, sometimes I add a little fennel, garlic powder, and dry milk powder.
If I add more dry stuff, I usually take it out of the white flour portion.
