Okay, I called the vet but they are booked until Thurs. at 5.
Is there anything else I can do for her, she has a bloated tummy and is passing worms, thin long worms...I almost puked ladies!!
I've never had a puppy this young before, we adopted Sniffer when she was 1 year old and Cocoa was given to us.
Anythign over the counter I can do or anything here at the house?

Find the freshest poop, scope some up with some kind of disposible container or perhaps a plastic ziploc bag. Take puppy and fecal sample to vet. A few years ago, when I worked as a vet assistant, bits of dirt and grass were okay in the sample.
I am disturbed that a vet will not let you drop off the sample, have technician weigh puppy, and dispense something to begin the deworming process. Geez, they could do that, schedule an appointment to recheck and make more money on you. Hopefully, your puppy is not anemic and the worms will be gone soon. I sympathize as I know it is so gross. I think the heartworm/deworm combo is a great invention.

I have boiled some rice and chicken stock and fed it little bits of it all day and this morning, She is running around the house now and wagging her tail!
How do I go about getting a sample, what if it touches the ground, does it not have to be as good a sample as humans...Sorry the gross question!

I agree with the above. you should be able to take in a fecal sample and have them run a check on it and get some dewormer from the vet without seeing the vet right now. and then take the pup on thursday for a check up if you want but if you can't get them to run a sample get a new vet!!!! I also deworm my pups at home with nemex-2 I get over the counter at the feed stores and pet stores. you could do that until you can be seen by the vet. When you go to the vets you should be able to just start it on heartworm meds and that will deworm it also and if you get interceptor it will deworm it for 3 different kinds of worms plus the heartworm. they do not have to do a heartworm test for such a young pup because it has not been alive for 6 months so they should be able to just start him on the heartwormer. We have successfully used garlic for our dogs and worms. We usually crushed up a garlic tablet in the food. I don't know about with a puppy how much you would use though. I have asked our vet about the use of garlic and he says not on a regular basis but if you can get them to eat it, it won't hurt once in a while. Garlic is good for ridding worms their digestive systems are a lot like humans. I trust my vet and if you can't get him to get you in maybe you could take a sample to your emergency vet. They usually have those around for when other vets are out of town or after hours.

By the way, round worms can kill a puppy, I would get the sample in ASAP. I have seen numerous puppies die that way, it isn't pretty. Are his gums pink? Pale gums are a sign of anemia, the round worms suck the blood out of the intestines. I don't mean to scare you but you do not need to wait until Thurs afternoon

Your puppy has round worms (I work at a vet) but could have others. Just take in a sample of the poop (take your puppy with you so they can weigh it) and let them run the sample. If your vet has a problem with that, you need a new vet! We have clients do that all of the time, it is expected.

round worms are easy to get rid of and dont cause lasting problems. the only reasosn i see to have a vet check is to make sure he doesnt have hook worms also. they are harder to get rid of with otc products and can cause life treatening and permanent problems.

That sounds like round worms. I don't see why they won't let you just pick something up. Be careful that it isn't passed to your other dog as well. Poor thing, I sure hope your baby gets better soon. They are just like human babies, it is hard to see them not feeling well. :(

your vet should be able to get you something without seeing the pup. if not is there a feed store neaer you that has vet supplies? ther are plenty of things you can buy for worming at most of them. just do nto use the stuff you find in the gorcery store bcause it istn effective. the pup will still probably need a check up later but no need for a vet visit to take care of worms. peace connie in alaska |

Oh no! That sweet thing has worms? Poor puppy. Wish I could help you with a home remedy but I've never gone thru this situation. I did check my "Dog Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook" and unfortunately they only list prescription medication for worms. They usually have OTC products they recommend but I guess not in this situation. Can't believe you can't get in until Thurs! Can you bring them a fecal sample and just have the tech's test it so that by the time you get to see the Dr they will already know what they are dealing with? Just a thought. Hang in there Heather. It's hard to see them not feeling well.
