I almost cried this morning when I went out to see the damage. I have been landscaping and planting and I know we have deer (my neighbors feed them...ridiculous) but my dog seems to keep them away. Evidently until we go in at night! I have been slowly introducing things into my yard and they've been thriving but the deer and rabbits must wait until they're thriving and then they go WHOLE HOG at 'em!
I bought a flowering Hibiscus tree which they told me deer did not like well......WRONG...they ate half of it last night right when it was getting ready to bloom and they or the rabbits ate 5 of my other flowering plants down to the ground so it's WAR! I can't afford to replace all these and I was trying to landscape to get ready to sell....evidently the universe does not want me to leave.LOL!
So...I've heard all the "methods" but most don't work so I went and spent $23.00 on deer/rabbit spray that is safe and environmentally friendly and 100% gauranteed!
Please pray that it works otherwise you're going to hear me back here tomorrow with another sad tale! And any of you with this problem I will let you know if this stuff works.
How do all of you deal with "critters" in your landscape and gardens?
I lived on a 'farmette' for 20 years and never had problems but my dogs were outside and loose 24/7...now I live in a neighborhood with leash laws....I wish they'd get leash laws for the deer and rabbits!
LOL!

Being a city girl, the only deer contact I had was with Bambi! I thought they were the most beautiful creatures!!! Didn't realize that they could do soo much damage! Found out some special farmer friends of mine call them---Rodents With Hooves!!!!!LOL!!!

Hey Sandra
We have a ton of deer here too & last year with the drought they really wiped me out. We have been here 10 yrs & have never let anyone hunt, but after their damage last year, like you said IT WAS WAR!! Hubby's friend came up & hunted & was so excited, I just told him to let me know so I could make sure to be gone. He was very responsible & during bow season, actually came 3 times before he even shot 1 arrow as he wanted to be perfectly sure he had a clear shot. I am not keen on the idea, but we have a major deer over population & it was free meat in the freezer that I know where it came from.
Also, there is a product called Deer Scram that is guaranteed. It is a granule.
Oh, & by the way, we live on a serious bend on a downhill stretch that is locally known as Horseshoe Bend! So Howdy neighbor!

With the prices of everything as high as they are, to be able to do anything for free is a good thing right?? Ok..here's a free way..not to sound gross, but Human urine keeps deer away (not sure about rabbits) sooo...got a hubby or a son..or even yourself..pee around the edge of your garden, your yard, everywhere you can. :) It's free.

Thank you....I bought some "Liquid Fence" and sprayed and we'll see how that works but I wondered about pepper and just sprinkling it on the leaves and ground but it would take a lot but if this stuff doesn't work I'll look for your spray. Thank you!
It's just getting light now so we'll see what the day brings! I'll let you know how the "Liquid Fence" works!
Yesterday was garbage day here and realized I was out of garbage bags so I went up to our little grocery store to get some and ran into my electrician who of course I whined too about the deer damage and he told me to go to the feed store in Franklin, about 6 miles up the road and get the deer/rabbit stuff so I did and they had it and when I went to purchase it I realized I did not have enough cash, they didn't take credit cards and I had left my checkbook on my desk where I was making out bills....welllll.......the lady there was SO NICE....she said with gas prices what they are to just stick a check in the mail when I got home! It was like $24.00 and she didn't even know me! How nice is that? So first thing on my list this morning is to get that check in the mail to her! What a gift that was amid all the destruction...it made my day!

We use the spray with capcasion (sp?) (cayenne pepper) in it and it works GREAT!! Good luck!
