From a deep state of slumber, I was awoken by the love of my life to inform me that my young silkie roo was singing to his little heart's content out there in the back forty. Now, mind you, I was thrilled to know that the lad was developing as he should be. I am thrilled that he is taking care of his duty of waking up the girls in the coop for their busy day ahead. I am proud that my little baby that I bought on ebay (as an egg) has grown into a fine young man with aspirations of greatness.
I am, however, not proud that he chose to express himself at 4:00 am. I'm thinking he needs additional training on how to live on "MY" farm. We'll work on that. :o)

I have one of those too He is a beautiful red silkie roo
Luckily hubby and I get up around 4:45 for work every morning, so if the alarm clock ever pooops out---which has on occasion, it's kind of nice to have that rooster to fall back on.
Now on days when I want to sleep in, I move the coop further away from the house and be sure to keep the windows closed.
I do however feel your pain! |

I guess rooster crowing never bothered me - if it is not right under your window. We had a Banti (sp?) rooster when I was a kid out in the barn and he always crowed early - but I loved the sound, kinda up there with train whistles off in the night. One summer my husband and I rented a cottage on the southern Oregon coast, the people who had the cottage lived nearby and had chickens and of course one big rooster. He crowed every morning - drove my husband nuts, but I loved it. Maybe as he grows a bit older, he will wake up a bit later.

Well, I have noticed that he starts and then the Barred Rock Rooster gets a'going in the other pen. Then the Leghorn across the road get goin' which sets off the guinea hens up the road. The guineas wake up the d*#%^ peacocks from the ranch a mile away.
Gonna buy me some earplugs........

I think it works like this: The rooster starts crowing around 4, then one of the old girls hits the snooze, and he does not start in again till 5 !!! Makes sense!
