I am really puzzled over the latest thing my adopted cat is doing - Drooling - I am talking about looking like the old Monty Python show drooling. He is eating and drinking the same, no change on temp and such, but in the last two weeks everytime he is sitting down relaxing there goes the drooling. He has not lost reflexes, eye's are clear or is this just another weird way of trying to get the attention away from the goat in the house.
Would love to hear what you think might be causing this - he is making my bed a water bed and I have taken away all throws and pillow in the livingroom because of this. He makes more drool then my Great Pry's and without all the outside work.

I've seen cats slobber when they are real happy. Also my sister's cat lost some teeth and she drooled a lot.

THANK YOU ALL for the great imput. I did not think to google this - I knew they did it when they were happy but he seems so unhappy with the present house situtation I was concerned it was something worse. I checked his teeth - OH BOY HE HATED THAT - but everything is fine with them in fact - VERY sharp and strong they are........
I think your right he must thrive on being put out.. We have all known a few friends who are not happy unless there is drama.......
Again, thank you all for answering my dumb question - really I have never had a cat who drooled - I guess the odds just where right.

I am a cat lover, have a few that do strange things, but no droolers at the moment. I hope you can find out what uis going on, probably it's just one of those thing that cats appear and then disappear. My cat Mab loves to lick my face, but lately she likes to lick the lenses of my glasses. I hope that this too will pass. Good luck, I apologize for being no help whatsoever. Apparently, it's a natural reaction and goes hand in hand with the kneading and purring...It's a primal instinct from birth, when they are kneading momma kitties abdomen for milk, and the saliva is a natural secretion to help them suckle.

We had a cat, Topaz, that had never drooled, and then one day she suddenly was a faucet whenever you petted her and got her to purring. It sure was a shock! It seems like some cats just do this. LOL What a weird thing, eh?

My cat Sylvia used to drool..but she was 20+ years old and had only one tooth left. Nothing to hold that drool in I guess. She didn't drool when she was younger. I miss her, even with the drool.

My mum's cat drools... she's missing one of her front teeth, and I think that may have something to do with it. But like others have mentioned, it only seems to happen when she is really relaxed. I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as she's still eating and drinking fine. :)

Check her teeth. Sometimes a loose tooth or an infected tooth will cause drooling.

Well, I think that says, it, Grace...he's probably just relishing that time with you....I know how frustrating it can be, for sure. I always hate it when a big drop falls on my hand when I'm least expecting it!!!!
He'll come around, but aren't you glad he's just drooling and not pooping in your shoes? ;)--ask my husband about this phenomena one day :)

Jonni I thought the same thing but he has been so and I mean sososososo angry about the goat I thought it was not possible for him to be happy right now. Maybe he is one of those types who love drama and thrives in it. I was just to BORING for him up till now.
Thanks Urbanchick for the mouth advise I went to him and did the lion trainer trick and stuck my head in his mouth and everything looks O.K. The whip and chair might have been more then I needed but he is not too keen on me pulling open his mouth.
Thanks to both of you for your advise and I will keep a drool bucket around his neck - now where did I put my silver drool bucket? I know I saw it just last week - things get so lost around here.....

My cat will drool when purring and content as well but just to make sure check inside his mouth to see that there are no lesions or sores in there. If he is eating and drinking fine and only does the drooling when purring, content or is generally happy to see you then I wouldn't worry too much. You might want to mention it to the vet next to you see him for annual shots so he can take a good look inside his mouth.

My oldest Tabby, Prof. Pumpkin does this periodically when he's kneeding on my lap and REALLY contented.
I don't think it's anything to be alarmed about...I liken it to being in a totally relaxed state. Pumpy almost looks hypnotized or translike when he's doing it.
