Oh I go up to Pougkeepsie sometimes~

Maybe all three of us could meet up some time.

What about meeting up at the Cracker Barrel in Fishkill some day?
Farmtopia Posted - Mar 16 2008 : 06:50:37 AM
Well, Yasmine, one of these days I'll have to drive up to you :) And Heather, I'll email about lunch :D Have you tried Craigslist yet Yasmine? They have a "pet" section for Pougkeepsie, I think.

MagnoliaWhisper Posted - Mar 15 2008 : 8:26:38 PM
That was about 8 years ago, lol.

I am pretty sure they were bob cats. Mountain Lions I believe are more golden in color, and these were black and kind of a grey/green striped. They were HUGE! I found them at Pet Smart, and PetCo! lol haha And a few other pet shops! lol I went to several looking for a cat, and they all looked alike, and the biggest "cats" I ever saw! lol haha Like I said the looks they gave us creeped me out! I told my husband, do you see they look at us like we're lunch! When we would come up to them, they would rise, and do a pace, back and forth in their cage, and just be staring us over weirdly! And so big! lol haha

And yes, we should do lunch! I'm in Queens, where are you? hehe.

BTW, I think it's kind of inhumane to not let a animal, OUT! lol My goodness. I feel sorry for animals that aren't allowed to be outside, since um, they are ANIMALS! And that's their natural habitat. I had cats who would of went crazy if we never let them out!

However, where I live in a apartment, the poor thing would have to stay inside as we're not allowed pets. lol Even though I want one!

Yes, humane societies consider keeping a cat or dog for anything other than companionship inhumane. They really do not want dogs or cats kept outside for any reason, so that may not be your best option....

most humane societies will not sell you cats that will be outside anymore! We tried to get one and one of the questions was will you let the cat outside. We said yes and they denied our application.

Hey Heather...oooh, another "farmgirl" from the city! Nice to meet you! Ha! When was THAT? I don't think they are doing that much more with wildlife in the city, there is a big shutdown of so much going on the city (which is great in some ways, but that sounds like a crazy story, and NYC is nothing if not for it's crazy stories!)

We should do lunch sometime! ;D

Heather are you sure you aren't talking about Mountain Lions? Just curious which animals were being sold. Yikes!

Bobcats:
The adult male Bobcat is 28 to 47 inches (70–120 cm) long, averaging 36 inches (90 cm); this includes a stubby 4 to 7 inch (10–18 cm) tail,[11] which has a "bobbed" appearance and gives the species its name. An adult stands about 14 or 15 inches (36–38 cm) at the shoulders.[9] Adult males usually range from 16 to 30 pounds (7–14 kg); females average about 20 pounds (9 kg). The Bobcat is muscular, and its hind legs are longer than its front legs, giving it a bobbing gait. At birth it weighs 0.6 to 0.75 pounds (280–340 g) and is about 10 inches (25 cm) in length. By its first year it will reach about 10 pounds (4.5 kg).[13]

All I have to say is make sure they are NOT bob cats. (you know the wild big cats, that eat people! lol).

When I first moved up here to NYC, I went to place, to place looking for a cat, they were all HUGE. I kept telling my husband, they were weird looking, and way too big for house cats, I had never seen any like that as a house cat. And they all gave me weird looks, like I was lunch! So I went with my gut and would not buy them. (this was several pet/cat places). So then I was telling my mom about all these weird cats. And she told me there had just been on the news a story about how a lot of places here in NYC were trying to sell bob cats as house cats. And that some families had been seriously hurt! Well as soon as she said that it hit me, they were bob cats! (stripes and every thing, just like the bob cats I had seen growing up! But, it didn't make a connection since I was going places, where they should of been domestic cats! ). Boy I dodged a bullet!

So let me just tell you, if they are like 6 to 7 feet long and look at you like lunch they're not a house cat! lol haha So be careful in the NY area! lol

Also check with any humane society in the area. They might not be free- but they should be spayed or neutered and would have all their shots.

Hey Yasmine...another idea is to look at Craigslist: www.craigslist.com
You can click on the state, and then the area you live in, and look under "free" or "pets" for cats and kittens for free. Usually, people tend to give kittens for free.

How far away from New York City are you? There are TONS of kittens and rescue groups trying to help little cats and maybe transportation could be arranged to get to you. Good luck!

Hello Yasmine. I just had to write you. I don't have any kittens and I live a long way from NY. I bet you won't have any trouble finding kittens. There are so many out there who need a home and I am sure there is probably a cat rescue group nearby you could contact or even a vets office. Our local vet takes in abandoned cats, gives them shots, nueter or spay them and adopt them out. As a matter of fact........I have a cat I would love to find a home for. It showed up at my back door 4 weeks ago starving, skin and bones. Took it to my vet had it examined, innoculated, treated for hookworms, earmites, and groomed. She will be spayed next week. I already have 2 cats, one rescued from same vet. This cat, Sophie, is the sweetest most lovable cat I have ever had. Very quiet, lap cat, loves attention. My cats are very persnickety and only occasionally allow me touch them. If I can't find the right home for her I will keep her but she is available to someone who will keep her indoors and love her.She is a beautiful, black & white long haired cat with the most perfect little face and marking. She is not a large cat,6lbs.,approx 4yrs.old,petite and very prissy. I will give this precious girl to the right person for free. I have already spent 130.00 with a discount from my vet and not sure yet what the spay surgery will be after another discount but I would be happy to give her to a loving home no charge. Did I mention her eyes are aqua? She is beautiful. Will post a picture of her on my blog this weekend. Anyone interested? Will help with transportation. Tracy
