Have any of you ever heard of these? I've been wanting a dairy cow for some time, but of course on .48 acres, I couldn't have one. I might be able to convince the city council to let me have a mini, though. What do you gals think? Would it be feasible? Are these cows genetically altered? Or are they mini through natural selective breeding?
In looking on the internet, I've already picked out a beautiful little Jersey and she's just so adorable! They are a bit on the spendy side, so it's not something I can buy right away, anyway. But I can still plan for it!

Well, the cattle company responded to my email and said they have serveral that would do very well on my nearly half acre. So, now all I have to do is convince my neighbors and the city council. Oh, and save up for one. But I figure the cow will more than pay for itself in a year just in what I'd save on dairy products at the store. Plus, I could always sell off the excess.

I think a Jersey of any size is adorable, personally. Hey..I am on less than an acre here and have a full size Jersey. They arn't terribly big really. And the price is alot better. It does depend on your neighborhood/town our town is very small and rural..alot of horses, sheep and goats in town. I don't know how many milk cows..but at least one...Mona.
The mini's are pretty cute though. Let us know what you find out. I don't see why having one small cow is worse than a few goats. I had goats and more sheep before and Mona isn't more of a nuisance at all...less proabably. I had a buck goat for awhile...peeyew!! He wasn't very popular. Good luck.

When I had my herd of dairy goats I got involved in the "mini" breeding..it's a healthy animal bred to produce a large amount of beef or milk in proportion to its size.
I raised the full sized Nubian and Saanen dairy goats but there are also miniNubians and miniSaanens and of course you have the Nigerian Dwarfs, Pygmies, Kinders and more...
I'd love to have the pair of Mini Holsteins they have

My parents want to raise them in the future. I would love to have one, but it would take me forever to save enough money! They are kind of expensive. Very cute though. I think they are mini through selective breeding.

Well, I certainly don't have room for 2. So I had to choose. To me, dairy is more important. I spend more money on organic milk, cream, butter and ice cream than I do on beef. And the organics I buy from the store, as good as it is, still isn't as fresh as what I could get from my own back yard! Mmmmmmm.

I want one too but I'm thinking tiny beef. I've seen the Mini Angus but I don't know about Dairy. I believe they are bred down to mimi size. MB
