I got some very upsetting news about my mini horse, Winnie that I gave to the girl who trims her hooves (she has a small rescue for horses) She kept bugging me about giving her up and with my fibro acting up so much I gave in and let her take her. Well tonight I got an email saying she had an accident and hurt her eye, well it seems they took her to the vet clinic and her eye was injured so badly that they had to remove it. In all the years I had Winnie, she had foundered once, had colic a few times but we always made it through. I just feel so bad that this happened to her and I want to reach out to her so bad, I want to hold her and tell her I love her. I had a bad feeling about letting her go but brushed it off as just holding on too long - please pray my little Winnie is okay.....So sad I am tonight.

Oh Kathy, I'm so glad that you got to visit with Winnie. She sounds happy and that is just wonderful.

I will say a little prayer for both Winnie and your hubby and you and that your year will just get better & better!

Blessings, Lea

I went to see Winnie in her new home and she has a new best friend. One of the big horses stays constantly at her side - Winnie gave me a little attention but was quite happy to be out running in the field with her new bud. When she got near a group of the bigger horses she screamed (as only a mini horse can do so theatrically) and then kicked her legs back. When I went to leave she winnied from the field. Her eye is still patched and stitched but she is coming along quite nicely.
I have decided that goats are my best bet here and in the spring I am getting two Nigerian dwarfs to bottle raise - it was fun with my Nubian - these will be ever so much smaller - hehehe Billy Bahh Bahh is a giant

Thank you for all your caring thoughts. I have heard that Winnie is back to the farm and recovering nicely. I am not quite ready to go and see her as I know seeing her with one eye will break my heart. I guess I keep thinking....what if I did not let her go. But that is the past. I will bring my husband with me to see her, I really miss her so much too. I was going to place the goats, but have decided I am not ready for that - perhaps I will raise another baby goat in the spring.......
Hubby is home and all tests have come back okay. He goes for halter monitor today and then recheck at heart dr in a week. Sheesh, it has been a blast so far this year. Now....if I can just pull myself up by the bootstraps and get my fibro and sleep patterns back to 'normal' and I say that loosely, I will be much better. The snowdrops are coming up and Feb is nearly half over so it is time to remember that spring will soon be here to cheer us all.

Kathy,
I was so sorry to hear about your sad news, both your husband's health and your poor Winnie. I know it's hard to give an animal away, but they are always in our hearts. I had a goat named Winni that we had to give back to her original owner. We still think about her funny little antics in the goat barn! Your winnie will recouperate and be okay. I hope things are improving with your husband. It's been a real hard year so far for so many people, you're not alone. We're all thinking about you.

Kathy, What a shame about Winnie. I'm sure she'll be alright, though. As others have mentioned, animals adapt very well. It's good that your husband is seeking care. I will be thinking positive thoughts your way. Take care! Judy

I will be praying for you, your hubby, and poor Winnie. I am sure this girl will let you visit her won't she? Then you could comfort both of you.

Oh Kathy, I'm so sorry about your Hubby and little Winnie. I have a mini horse too with just one eye. He lost his eye as a youngster from a wire sticking out of a fence. The people who had him at the time named him One Eyed Jack, but I call him Jackie. He has adapted extremely well, as I'm sure Ms. Winnie will do. I'm just so sorry that she has to go through something so traumatic. I'll keep you in my prayers Kathy, and things will get better..hang in there! Love and hugs, Lu

P.S. Please feel free to e mail me anytime. I'd love to hear how the rest of your critters are doing.

Gosh Kathy, such stuff going on in your world. I'm praying for both Winnie and your husband. Winnie will be fine--it's terrible, but she will adapt very quickly, as we all know how amazing animals are. Thinking of you!!

Husband was admitted to the hospital today. He was in afib but then converted back to normal sinus rhythm before I left. They are keeping him overnight per the heart dr.

Kathy,

I'm so sorry to hear about Winnie and your husband. Is your husband doing any better? I know that must have been frightening. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry you are having this difficult time-- it seems like things always come at us at once. I hope your h continues to improve and seeks medical care.

I also was going to say that horses can do well with one eye so hopefully your mini is not as affected as much as it might seem to us. Animals have a way of adapting and accepting in ways that people can't because we 'think' too much where animals just make do.

Kathy...so sorry about Winnie. It is hard to let our beloved animals be adopted into new families.

So glad your husband is doing better....those panic moments when trying to decide to call an ambulance or not can be overwhelming. Sounds like y'all did good. I hope all goes better.

Blessings

As far as I know she is coming back to the farm she is at tomorrow. The night only got better when my husband's heart went into Afib and he nearly died on my bed. Refused ambulance but police emt came by - pulse very weak and irregular - he was grey and sweaty and did not want to go to the hospital - Heaven help me
