Posted - Jan 23 2008 : 06:44:00 AM Have any of you ever used or seen used the "Duck Naked Plucker" by Cabelas? (don't you just love that name?!) We're wondering if it'd be good for chickens. There's one in our county classifieds this week and it's very inexpensive, compared to its regular price. thanks for any info! |

Posted - Jan 24 2008 : 7:30:04 PM Hope you enjoy your plucker ??? I guess that is okay to say. :) I don't remember what we paid for ours, 50 bucks from a friend. It is all stainless steel, a sheild of sorts around the fingers, on a stand so you don't have to bend over, and a motor attached. Very simple, yet effective. The friend had made it himself. If anyone wants a picture, just let me know, and I post that.

Posted - Jan 24 2008 : 05:09:27 AM We have a homemade chicken plucker also. Works great. It has the rubber fingers, and you hold the chicken up to it. It really does not make a big mess. It is so fast, it makes the job go smoother. We tried skinning some the year before, and really did not care for doing it that way. Our is a small one.

Posted - Jan 23 2008 : 4:01:39 PM We have a plucker that my hubby build with a book by Henrick Kimball, call How to build a whiz bang chicken plucker. It is great. With the used parts it cost us abotu 250 to build. It is the tub style with the rubber finger. The Type the duck naked one is you have to hold the chicken against it and the feather fly everywhere and it makes quite a bit of work. It would be better than hand plucking and 100 is a good deal but we like the tub style so much better.

Posted - Jan 23 2008 : 3:40:05 PM okay, actually it's similar to the current cabelas one, and the guy wants to get rid of it (brand new) for under $100. My husband's going to look at it tomorrow night. As of now, he skins the chickens, but some people really like them better plucked. . .maybe easier with machine than skinning by hand? |

Posted - Jan 23 2008 : 07:17:01 AM Some friends of mine own a farm; they process chickens & they use a commercial plucker (huge drum-looks like a washing machine drum) style chicken plucker...the rubber fingers look like the ones in the photo of the duck naked plucker on Cabela's site, so, if you've found one @ a better price than listed on the site...perhaps it's worth looking into.
