Well, it didn't go so well for Charlee - she had to have a c-section tonight and had two puppies that looked full size on the xrays but one is smaller and the bigger one does not look very well and sounds congested, not a good sign. They do not have much hair on them and we can't seem to figure out why. The smaller little girl is a fighter and I will probably be up the rest of the night taking her on and off her mother. I have the babies on a heating pad in the kitchen and mom is in my room in her cage- she is really out of it. They are getting a drop of dextrose under their tongues every hour - for as long as I can keep my eyes open. Doc says they may have had some sort of infection in the sacs that made them not have as much hair. They are cute, they are chocolate but without a lot of hair they look more like weimareiners than cockapoos. I think after this escapade I will probably get ms Charlee fixed - never had a cocker with a c-section before but she is a tiny cocker. Say some prayers that at least the little girl makes it and of course that Charlee recovers quickly. Doc also said their was evidence that a third puppy had been reabsorbed by the mother.

she did not have a good day today. She vomitted this am after eating some dry cat food she likes to eat that from the floor. She drank good today and I gave her pedialyte tonight and then I had rimadyl in the house and cut 75 mg chewable in 4 pieces and gave her a 1/4 one crused in hot water and gave it to her in a syringe. I syringed the pedialyte into her and then I opened an acidolpholus capsule opened, not the whole thing she took in more pedialyte - She did not eat today but took nutracal - does not want to eat other that the cat food she grabbed this am. She had diarrhea so I figured it I could get the acidolphulus in her it might help, maybe the diarrhea is from the surgery or anesthesia - looks like a tiny opening in on incision line but not all the way through, I am keeping an eye on that. Her temp is good today and staying in the 101 range which for a dog is normal. She seemed pretty perky walking outside but just lies around in her cage like she can't get comfortable. I lost the little female puppy today and I was figuring on that. The male is doing good I am feediing him. Mom wants no part of them and I can't say at this point in the game I blame her. Not a good experience. Tried the canned dog food but she has no interest, not even in the fresh chicken. If she looks punky tomorrow I may take her to the emergency clinic but I would like to hold out to take her back to the vet who did the surgery. She is hydrated and does drink on her own when I let her. Tonight she may have had just a little too much to drink and the rimadyl on her empty stomach and mushed up in a slurry probably did not help. Pray for my girl!

I hope your puppies are doing well, Kathy. Why did the mother have to have a c-section? From your description of the puppies, it doesn't sound like they were ready to be born. Sometimes my moms don't want to leave their puppies long enough to eat, so I hand feed them chunks of canned dog food. That usually helps, if you haven't tried that. |

I am glad that your girl is feeling better. Will pray that the puppies keep going good. Not fun when things just don't go natural and on their own.

Yeah! Got mom to eat tonight and drank some water! I will put the wee ones back to nurse when they are warm from heating pad. Charlee is up on bed next to me. The pain medicine really seemed to help and make a difference.

Charlee went back to the vet for a recheck. She was given another antibiotic injection as well as an injection of Rimadyl for pain. She is hyrdrated plenty so I can give her some pedialyte later. She still does not want to eat but I have had her up and walking outside. Babies have nursed on her some, I am surprised they are still alive but happily surprised. Hopefully Charlee will feel much better tomorrow.
Sold Cicly, one of the black and white parti cockers - she went to a very good home but I cried and cried. I put so much of myself into my dogs that when they leave it is hard to let them go. Please put Charlee and her puppies in your prayers.

Mom, Charlee woke up this am vomiting - took her temp and it was 103.3 - called vet this am and he said it is not uncommon to run a temp after c-section. I will try to offer her some food later today. She is still pretty out of it. I put little girl next to her and she nursed a tiny bit. Boy puppy made it through the night and I gave them both a tiny drop of dextrose this am. Mixed up some puppy milk replacer and they took a little. Nature knows best if these two little ones will make it. My main concern of course is the mother dog. I will take her temp around 11 am to be sure it has not climbed any higher. Dr said she was given a lot of IV fluids during surgery so hopefully this time he is right and she will be fine. Gave her antibiotic during surgery and says he has done hundreds of c-sections without sending home on an antibiotic. Pray that she will be fine. This is one little cocker that will be spayed, she is too small and delicate to risk anything happening to her. She is my baby girl.
Oh guys, I am so tired. I hope the burdens on my back lessen soon.....
