We got home from my son's occupational therapy appointment and driving around looking at leaves to find one of my chickens in the front yard. The dogs tore a bunch of feathers out and it was bleeding, but still alive, so I put it in a hospital cage. In the cage next to it I had a mom and litter of kittens, and 3 of them were dead- I don't know if it was the cold, or if she wasn't feeding them. Then I heard baby goats and looked at my kidding pen and saw the babies. So I ran back to the house and told my husband what all was going on, so he called his parents and had them come over to watch the kids. I took the remaining kittens and fed them and set up a cage in the garage where they could stay warm. Then I fed my injured chicken. Then we moved the baby goats and mom to a camper I use as a baby goat cage/chicken and duck brooder. Then I moved my other goats that were loose back into the barn. Then my husband and I caught each chicken and cut the flight feathers on one wing. I got hit in the mouth by a chicken, several beat the crap out of my with their wings, and a couple got me with their toenails. But at least now they shouldn't be able to get out and the dogs won't be able to get them, hopefully. I should have counted the chickens while I was at it, but there are around 50 I would say. So now I am completely whupped. I can't wait to go to bed! Anyone else have those kind of days? |

I can still think to myself, at least it's not like the time I bought a llama. It was horrible! The llama busted through our fence within 2 minutes of having him and took off down the road with me running after it. I don't know how many of you have ever seen a llama run, but they run as fast as horses. And it didn't want to be caught. At the next neighbor's farm, it veered into the field and we ended up chasing it around the field for 2 hours in our truck until our neighbors came to the rescue on 4 wheelers and helped catch it. I had my husband take it back to the guy I bought it from because I was so embarrassed and I knew it would just get away again. I guess if I could handle that day, I can handle anything! |

I thought I was the only one who has days like that!! For many years we would chaulk it up to the name of our farm, or what we call the Gerber Curse and last but not least "Our life lesson gone bad". However over the years it is those days that we sit back and giggle about when life throws us really bad things. I have also learned to look at them as badges of honor. Take a nice long hot bath, a small glass of something strong to drink and write this story down because someday you will need to know you have what it takes to handle anything.

I am so sorry to hear that you had some kittens die and a chicken get injured! I hope tomorrow is a better day!

Oh sweetie, I've had days like that. Check your babies and patients, get a nice warm bath and tuck your poor little tuckered self in as soon as you can
