A Horse's Prayer

Feed me, water and care for me,
and when the day's work is done,
provide me with a shelter,
a clean dry stall large enough
for me to lie down in comfort.
Talk to me, your voice often means
as much to me as the reins.
Pet me sometime that I may serve you
more gladly and learn to love you.
Shoe me properly that I may
serve you in comfort.

Never strike, beat, or kick me
when I don't understand what you want,
but give me the chance to understand you.
And finally oh master,
when my youthful strength is gone
do not turn me out to starve or freeze,
or sell me to some cruel owner
to be slowly tortured or stoned to death,
but do thou, my master,
take my life in the kindest way, and
your God will reward you here and hereafter.

You will not consider me irreverent if I ask this
in the name of Him who was born in a stable...

Amen...

That is a beautiful prayer. I wish that people would realize how special horses are.....

"Greetings from the Gateway to the North Cascades."

Oh how I love this. From the moment I read black beauty as a young child, the horror of so many horses life made me cry. I get so mad when I read ads for poor elderly horses who can't be ridden and people just waiting to dump them. I mean come on what a horrible way to treat a good and faithful friend. 2 of the horses I grew up ridding have passed away of old age on the farm they always lived on and they are buried in their pasture right next to each other. I smile when I think about they were best buds, and now they will be forever together.

Oh yes and have you read Chicken Soup for the Horse Lovers Soul. I weep through all the stories. Oh my gosh.....

Thanks for posting
Amy
