Dolly, our 8 yo Jersey cow is due in the next couple of weeks!!! A heifer calf is already spoken for and a bull calf will be the replacement for 'Almanzo'**.

Our Berkshire gilt, Mz Piggie, *may* be pregnant. She was in the same pasture with a boar from Feb - June. We thought the boar was shooting blanks, and we bought 6 piglets to raise for our customers and ourselves.

Just this week, Mz Piggie has started bagging up. !!!! We may soon have more piggies than we know what to do with!!

OH! and this year our pea fowl successfully hatched 5 pea chicks! WOOT!

** Almanzo is the unrelated young Jersey bull calf we have to service Dolly in her first heat. Then he will be steered, fattened up and go to freezer camp next year.

Carol Sue - the males are peacocks, the hens are peahens and the chicks are peachicks, collectively they are peafowl. Most folks just call them all peacocks though!! I keep forgetting that though.

Hi Chris! Long time!

We've learned the hard way to collect up any chicks (keets, poults) as soon as they appear with the hen. They're placed in a brooder, then in the 'play pen' (a huge dog run wrapped with chicken wire & a top on it). When they out grow that, they're big enough to free range.

You must be in a very fertile area, there Cyndi. Congratulations on all your new arrivals. I have a peahen, but my
peacock isn't old enough to mate with her yet - for now they just stroll around together. How do you keep the critters
from getting those baby peafowls?
