My friend thinks it would be great if I enter in the Southern Classic Foxtrotter show in Clemson SC October 20th-21st. I don't know the first thing about showing a horse but she said I can do a walk/trot class. I know how to sit on a horse doing a walk and trot and not fall off but other than that I don't know what to wear, what the horse wears, what classes to enter and how I am judged. Is there a good website to help or books to read? Are Foxtrotter shows very specific as to what I will be doing? Please help...I think I will be over my head but my friend said this horse already knows what to do, barring falling off the darn horse, I should be just fine and even come away with some ribbons.

I don't know much about Foxtrotters but have friends in ID that raise them. As for showing, I've shown quite a bit and since you're a newbie, it would be best if you found someone to get the basic lessons from and can 'match' you. You are learning, of course, but you don't want to go and look silly. Even tho you are having fun, you still need that sense of decorum. So take some lessons and get with it! :-) The show is right aroudn the corner! Not much time to plan and pull things together. Be sure to watch and learn from the other riders, especially the winners.
Despite everything I said above, try to have fun and enjoy yourself!! :-) I'm in a hurry right now and don't have time to go into everything I would want to say but at least you have the minimums.
