We had to put my first dog, Seanee to sleep on Tuesday. She was a huge red dog that was (we think) a lab/german short hair/ weimeraner mix. She was fun and loving and incredibly intelligent. She was a wonderful protector, an even better friend, and as loyal as they come.

When she was 8 months old, we won Reserve Grand Champion for 4-H county fair in Dog class. She would run beside me on my bike off-leash and the first time we did that, I didn't know it until we were home, but she ran her paws bloody to keep up.

She had been feeling off the last month or so, and on Tuesday she just had not strength to get up and move at all. Her gums were white and we later found out that she probably had some sort of spleenic or kidney/liver cancer that is insanely fast growning and always fatal. She basically was bleeding out into her stomach cavity.

It was horribly sad for us but she is better off now. I am just glad she didn't suffer.

Alee, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I know how hard it is to let our four legged family members go but you had the love in your heart to not let her suffer. My heart and hugs go out to you and yours.

Dear Alee,

My heart and prayers go out to you in this time of sorrow. Isn't it amazing how our beloved furry creatures hold such a strong place in our hearts and lives? I know the pain you are feeling....and I pray that the knowledge that your pet is at peace gives you comfort..best wishes..Erica

Sorry, Alee. It's never easy, but she sounds like she was well loved, and there's no better tribute than that.
I think always, that our beloved pets are still with us, they simply change form.
