My hubby started the Jeep to go to work and heard a bad sound and knew there had been a cat up in the motor, but didn't stop to see if it was all right. I just found her a little while ago dead on the driveway. I just got done burying her under the maple tree next to the chicken pen. Tippy always came with me when I did chores and came right into the chicken pen. The chickens never messed with her or anything. She just would come in and follow me around and then follow me back out. It will give me comfort to know she will always be there when I feed the chickens. |

Banging on the hood; that's a very good idea. This also happened to a friend of mine; fortunately the kitten lived, but lost 90% of its tail. We took it to the Vet who cleaned up the shredded part and it healed fine; the kitten lived a natural life (except for the part where it bred with its own sibling and then my friend had a litter of kittens whose parents were renamed Uncle Daddy and Aunt Mommy.

I know the feeling. I've been down on the farm most of the week for the past couple of weeks and I came home to find one of our babies missing - she's been gone for OVER A WEEK and he's just noticing!!!!!!This particular kitty is partially blind and doesn't leave the driveway - ever! Turns out she didn't like the new kittens in the house and hasn't been coming in to eat AT ALL! Did he think to take food out to her?? No. I'm so sad...

Yeah, we have about 20 farm cats also. This happened once before, but the cat was fine. He must have assumed this one would be fine also. I told him from now on he has to bang on the hood before he starts it. |

Oh, so sorry to hear about your kitty. When I was a kid we had about 20 farm cats all the time, and that seemed to be their favorite place to hide, especially in the fall and winter. There were a few casualties, and it always made me so sad.
I am sure your hubby is feeling bad also.
