For all of those poor lost or abandoned animals out there. It really upsets me to see a dog wandering around out on our highway peering into the windows of passing cars, obviously lost, looking for their beloved owners. It's so sad.

Granted, not all of these dogs are abandoned. Some are actually lost during hunting/camping/fishing trips that people are on when they are up here. But we get plenty of dogs (sometimes pregnant) that are just dumped up here. Hence the reason for my tyrade:

A friend of mine found a litter of 4 puppies and the mother up in the forest here. Obviously, the mother had been dumped. He wasn't sure if the dumping was before or after the pups were born. They look about 5-6 weeks old. They are so adorable and very well fed. Mom must have been eating...mice? packrats? She was pretty thin. Who knows. The pups are being doled out to folks around town as soon as mom weans them. Mom has a permanent home already.

If it weren't for the fact that I have 3 dogs already, I'd take them in until I found a home for them or for any animal. Trouble is, I don't have room. And dh doesn't really like the ruckus when strange animals are brought home (I've done it twice). We don't have a shelter at all for animals up here. I'm so disgusted with the way people treat their pets. Dumping a dog like that is like leaving your 6 year old out in the forest alone.

Why can't people just give them to someone? Or take the dog to a shelter themselves? I just don't understand.

Julie, that's funny. Janice, I wish I could find these jerks who dump their dogs. They would certainly get a piece of my mind!

We have a neighboor about 4 miles from us that get dogs sropped on her all the time but on the flip side she also get dogs stolen alot. She'll take the strays to get fized and get rid of the fleas and mange and then someone comes and takes em again! It's crazy!

I don't get it either, Lisa. And when we first bought our rural property, dogs were just shot when picked up by what passed for animal control. The 'dumping off' thing is the reason we have 5 dogs. I don't regret having them, but I'd sure like to have a few words with the creeps who threw them out like yesterday's garbage! :(
