OH...SORRY I scared you off. I think I will remove that post...so many are 'turned away' by my little arachnid friends. So please visit again soon!

I actually looked at your blog earlier this AM and have to say I quickly closed the window when I saw that picture. I can't stand spiders in any size, shape, or form. Although I do tolerate them outside because I know they are a good thing. But if they get in my house they're fair game. Usually the heel of a shoe is their demise!

I have one of those and it built a web outside my bedroom window. I like to watch it work.

NotQuiteReadyToSeeCreepyCrawly, thank you very much! I get the heebie jeebies about spiders and it only took me reading the first two posts here to decide not to check out the photos. (Shudder)

Nice to see that other farmgirls are okay with spiders, though. I am just a scaredy cat when it comes to thinking or seeing or dealing with them...

COOL! We have one of these too, and she has an egg case.

these spiders are so pretty best to keep 'em outside.

I don't mind little ones in the house, but the bigger ones can stay in their own yards!

brake cleaner is quick and simple sayeth my husband. he is creeped out by spiders too, but he acts like a big burly man about it as muc as he can. A quick squirt and before she knows it she is visiting spider Summerland.

Now that I have shown her off...and I do think she might be the biggest I have seen lately, I will likely kill her. But now that I have admired her all morning, it will be more difficult than if I had acted instinctively when we first saw her.

Your Charlotte is certainly a big, healthy specimen, Susan. I don't like killing anything, either. But I wonder what i would do with something that could kill me back! That's a tough one.

Oh Diane, I actually find them very interesting. Husband...not so much. He was on the sidelines coaching me get Charlotte into the jar this morning. He came in one day with a little garden snake in his hand (with gloves of course) and said "I knew you would be mad at me if I killed him. Get a jar!" We kept that little snake for about a year. Homeschooling lends itself to all sorts of interesting science lessons!

I personally dont kill snakes unless they are poisonous. Snakes are all a part of the "circle of life"...and I cannot abide rats! So I do allow chicken and king snakes to hang around if they like...and if the cats dont find them!

Ever thought of moving??
We have black widows here too, although I've only ever seen one. But I just could not live where there are snakes like you guys have. We have harmless garter snakes here and I've had to learn to accept that they are out there in my garden, but the ones you guys have would put me over the edge!
