Thanks all for all the good advice and warm wishes that you left on the thread about my dog Sadie's attack. She is recovering nicely from her surgery to drain the dog bite hematoma.

You know, I truly believe that we have free will...but sometimes I also think that there is a loose script that we follow through life. Things seem to happen for reasons. That seems to be true in this case.

Incidentally, while I was checking Sadie over (upon finding the hematoma on her back) I also found a tumor on her belly. So, while she was under for the back surgery, they also removed the tumor. Bernese Mountain Dogs are prone to cancer, so I did not want to watch the lump....I opted to have it removed...as was suggested by our Vet (and my sil, Becky). Well, last night we got a call from Becky about the pathology report. The tumor was malignant (cancer). We were lucky this time, because it was small and they removed good margins around it....so that is a big win for Sadie. I know that her future is full of more of these things....and we will take it as it comes.

BUT if it had not been for the dog bite, I might not have found this little tumor while it was still small......good fortune out of a bad situation.

I will enjoy every day that I have with my friend. She is the gentlest soul and I know that she loves me like no other and accepts me for whatever I might be at any moment in time. I also know that when she passes, her soul will wait for mine to again join her in the afterlife. Yes, I think that dogs go to Heaven, of course they do!!!!

Keep Smiling.....Bev

Beverly, I also didn't read your original post because of the warning, (I'm the biggest chicken) but I am so happy that your beautiful dog Sadie is feeling better and that the malignancy removed.

As bad as the whole attack had been Bev..
There was a reason for it.. wasn't there..
& i really do hate saying that.. or even hearing that too..
you know.. "there's a reason for everything" ..
But you said it too.. that had it not been for that other dog's being out of control.. You might not have found this on your Sweet Sadie.. or at least not so soon.. So.. This was truly a mixed blessing i guess.. & must have been meant to be.. there was a reason.. If simply to allow Sadie to be in your life a little bit longer.. As bad as it all has been.. She may really be here alot longer then ever now!
I really hope So Bev.. i know how much she means to you.. & just how hard her being sick has been for you..

You two Girls take care of yourselves.. ok..
Love ya Sweet Pea..

Bev,

You are so right, EVERYTHING happens for a reason. Sometimes we never ever know the reasoning. In this case you know.

May warm blessings shower you and Sadie in her speedy recovery and your many years to come.

I am glad they were able to get the tumor out. I hope that is the only one she ever gets!

I'm so happy you found it in time, Bev. Could you feel it pretty easily? Do you check her a lot and/or do you have a vet look at her with this in mind? I ask because my Owie dog really does look a lot like your Sadie. He was abandoned on a friend's farm, so we don't know his parentage. But over the past few years, numerous people have insisted that's what he is. I had never heard of the breed before.

Pretty Sadie! Bev, I have to be honest--I couldn't read your original post because of the heading "not for the squeamish", but I'm sooo glad that I read this one!

You are right, things DO happen for a reason, and now lovely Sadie is going to be just fine, and able to be your loyal girl for a long, long, time!
