Posted - Aug 12 2007 : 6:28:19 PM DH and I went for a ride to take the doxies out for a run and ended up in this woodsy area not far from here called Caitol Forest. We were driving up one gravel forest service road when dh turned off onto a smaller road and stopped. We got the dogs out and started walking up the road. We hadn't walked very far when Lucy ran over to the side, sniffing the ground. Out of the brush walked a cute little black and white kitten. I went and picked it up and saw another, grey one, in the berry vines. Then we saw the tire tracks where someone had dumped them off. Didn't even take them somewhere, like near a farm, where they could find a home. They were way out there in the boonies. I don't know how some people can sleep at night. We brought them home and fed them and now they're fast asleep. I'm needing names for these two cuties, the white one with black spots is a boy, and the allover grey one is a girl. Any suggestions for names? I'm drawing a blank. |

Posted - Aug 21 2007 : 10:30:02 PM I have a kitty story already. Yesterday I went to get some groceries and decided to switch things around and let the doxies stay in the garage and the kitties in the backyard. Our backyard is completely fenced with 6' high solid board fencing, and concrete underneath it, so no escape routes. Now I know kitties can climb, but they ususally sit by the back door when I let them out. Well, long story short, when I got home they were nowhere to be found. I called them and called them and they were not showing up. I was heartsick, but I couldn't find them anywhere. Well, about 1/2 hour later, the doorbell rang and it was a man from across the alley asking if I had two little kitties. They had climbed up the rosebush that comes over the fence, and into the fir trees that line the alley and then down under the trees. I went out to get them and had to crawl under the trees and pluck them out - they weren't coming out on their own. But, they are safe and sound again, and I won't let them out there when I leave again, until I know they are capable of finding their way back over the fence if they go exploring!! |

Posted - Aug 21 2007 : 2:46:02 PM Our cat Max was a drop off by someone 4 years ago. He is the nicest cat I have ever had. We lived on 3 acres in the middle of a city but had a barn and people would always drop of their extra pets. We always found homes for them but Max we just had to keep after we found him fast a sleep in my husbands helmet.
I too liked Lost and Found for names.
Enjoy your new family members you saved them from maybe being someones dinner or other cruel death.

Posted - Aug 17 2007 : 6:45:54 PM Hi Sherri, I've always believed that rescued dogs/cats know they are getting a second chance at life. All of my cats and one dog were strays--either they crossed my path or I adopted them from our animal shelter. It's wonderful those cats found you--sounds like it was meant to be for you to have the cats and the cats to have you!

Posted - Aug 16 2007 : 10:46:48 PM Boy have they made themselves at home! When I sit at the computer, they climb up my leg, sleep in the sun under the skylights in my studio, and scratch at the door when I put them out. Lucy loves them too, new toys. I caught her dragging one across the patio by the ear, (just playing, but kinda rough) and I hollered at her. She let it go, but it just turned around and went back and rubbed up against Lucy like they were best friends and lovers. They must be some grateful kittens to put up with that crazy pup! |

Posted - Aug 16 2007 : 7:30:57 PM How lucky for them that you were there to find them! I have to say it's a shame that people think farms (or further out) are the appropriate way to deal with "unwanted" pets. However, their loss is your gain.
I had a friend once who called their cats "Scout" and "Gem" from "To Kill a Mockingbird" and it seemed to fit!
Congrats

Posted - Aug 15 2007 : 5:09:37 PM Aw! They sound just like the two cats who live 24/7 in my town design studio! Same markings. I call my gray one Smudge. The black and white one has a silly girl's name but if I had it to do over again, I might call her Pixel, because I work with computers.
Lost and Found are cute names! |

Posted - Aug 15 2007 : 5:04:32 PM We did a pretty thorough search of the area to make sure there weren't more. These two were pretty bold, coming out of the brush, meowing at us and Lucy. |

Posted - Aug 15 2007 : 3:45:59 PM Sherri, How about Pepper for the boy and Scout for the girl? It makes me wonder if there might have been more kittens than just the two you found. So sad. I don't know how a person could sleep at night dumping baby animals that are not wild.....

Posted - Aug 15 2007 : 12:36:57 PM Sherri, I am so glad you found and took in those little babies. I seem to attract them myself. Someone recently brought me a bottle baby and a couple days later someone dumped the sweetest all grey tabby off near our house. We have 6 cats, so I decided to find homes for the new two. The bottle baby (Miya, named by the new owner) will go to a close family friend, and my parents decided to keep Blossom as our nursery cat.
We have Sunrise, Snoopy, Smokey Bob, Misty, Patches, & Flower, but we probably feed another 5-10 from the area because we leave food out for all during the day. We just recently lost our sweet little Sweetpea & Hazel.
I sure wish people would take better care of their animals and not dump them.

Posted - Aug 15 2007 : 10:34:09 AM Well, I never thought of that! I wonder if when I'm calling "Ashes, Ashes" someone will holler back "We all fall down." |

Posted - Aug 15 2007 : 06:35:56 AM OK, Sherri, just be cautious when you are out there hollering "Ashes, Ashes!" if your neighbors are outside, they might think you are calling them derogatory names! LOL
We have a neighbor who calls her cat in every evening; it always makes mne smile to hear her wailing...
"WA-TERMELON! WAAAAAHHH-TERMELON!
It could be worse though, couldn't it?

Posted - Aug 13 2007 : 2:34:55 PM I was thinking about how it would sound when I go outside to call them - "Here, Lost, here kitty kitty kitty, Here found, her kitty" I haven't met my neighbors since we moved here and I'm not sure I wanted them to here that as an introduction! |

Posted - Aug 13 2007 : 05:17:09 AM We had two dogs once named Hawkeye and Hotlips. Their dog house had a little sign on it that said MASH 4077! :)
Love the names you chose, but I thought Lost and Found was funny!
