I called an aquaintance today regarding a horse that she owns. She has two competition endurance horses and a horse that she cannot ride. She says he has problems after riding about 2 miles but he is a very loving horse. She just dosen't have time for him because she is busy trying the get the other horses ready for competition. I called her up today and asked if she was willing to teach me how to care for a horse using her unsound horse as an example. I told her if she teaches me how to groom, bathe and muck out his stall that I would love to learn how from him. I don't want to ride him, just want to love on him and groom him. She said she would love to and was happy that he is getting the attention he needs since she dosen't have the time. I have an appointment with her on Friday to get to know the horse. I'm excited. She said he's sound enough to let my daughter ride him and I can walk him around the pen. So I think this will work out great. I can learn how to care for a horse without taking away time from my riding lessons and she gets someone to pay some attention to her horse. She said when I am comfortable that I can come to the barn anytime to be with him. I guess he's going to be the prettiest, slickest horse in her pasture.

I hope they figure out what is wrong with him. He sounds like a wonderful horse and it would be a shame if he never was sound again.

His name is Taos. He's a 6 year old Missouri Fox Trotter. His is a beautiful Dun. It's a shame he is not sound. She is taking him again to Auburn Univ. this month to see what is wrong with him.

Well I met my friend and her horse today. He was such a sweet and well trained horse. I brushed him and cleaned his hooves, I cleaned his stall and turned him out to pasture. She taught me how to lounge him but he seemed a little sore on his feet so we only went around twice. She showed me how to properly open a gate with horses in tow and also how to turn them out to pasture. I cleaned the water troughs and refilled them and the horse came over to check out the hose. She said that last week she we filling up the troughs and left the hose running in the trough and left to clean up the brushes in the barn. When she came back he had pulled the hose out of the trough and was running around with the hose in his mouth and spraying it up in the air all over himself. He's a really cute, curious and well mannered horse. I can come any time to take care of him even when she is not home. I'm going on Monday to wash and groom him. Had lots of fun today.

That is great Ayako! I have heard that equine therapy can be great for kids. And a horse that hasn't had a lot of attention in the past will certainly appreciate it! I am so happy for you!
