Holy cow. First it was the stronger iodine that was outlawed (I can't remember the strength but it was stronger than the 7%, 13% maybe??) and now this. I used to work at a tack/farm/ranch store and you had to give your ID to buy the stuff. The girl who worked with me, her hubby was a deputy, would take the ones she thought 'looked suspicious' and give it to her hubby for him to follow up on. I thought that an invasion of privacy as no one had been charged. To me, it's either give them all or let the cops ask, thru channels, for the ones they want. Since my hubby is a retired deputy, it kind of scared me a bit.

Ya know they are outlawing everything assoicated with drugs.... I think we have a bigger problem with obesity. So when is Mc Donalds/fast food going to be outlawed? Look at the new TV shows... how many 500-1000 lb people does this world need before this is addressed?

Are they using iodine to make meth? Such a scary drug! They put all sorts of horrible things in that stuff!

HUH? Where have I been???

Someone please fill me in???

I know in the zoo field we use this stuff all the time...same for the umbilical treatment. I do know it can cause blindness in neonates. but please, is it now tied to drug use??!?!?

Oh my grief, the things you gals have to go through just to have what you need. Good suggestion about going to the police station before hand.

If your town is kind of small, I would go to the police department and tell them ahead of time you will be buying a big supply of iodine. They will be glad to get if off the shelves to go to a law abiding citizen.

May God bless those who love the soil,

Patsy

Sometimes it seems that we are the ones to suffer because of the crack heads out there. I am having trouble finding lye for my soap making because here where I live, they use it to make meth. I use Iodine on my newborns so I'm going to buy an amply supply. Sort of scared of buying too many at one time for they might arrest me for buying ingredients to make the crap.

7% Iodine is a topical wound treatment, commonly used as an umbilical cord/hoof dip for new born goat kids. It's probably used on other things as well, but my experience has been with goats.

I think its just more than a little stupid, to remove from our otc arsenal a product because it's used to make drugs. They should be punishing the criminals not the homesteader.

I guess we should all stock up on baking soda so our goats don't bloat before they decide to make that illegal too, because we could all be cooking up crack.

Babs- just a wee bit irritated.
