My silkie has two new babies so far. They started hatching yesterday morning and were still going last night. I bought the fertilized eggs on Ebay and 19 days later, voila! We have babies. They were all supposed to be white silkies, but a nice surprise that one of them is a blue!

I absolutely adore this chickens and am sooo excited to have the babies here.

Mom and babies are doing well. When I get into the pen to water or feed, they hide under their mom. However, they are very curious about me. I watch and see a cute little head poke out from who knows where on the their mom. Just checking me out.

Winona - Silkies are a really fun breed of chicken. They are a gentle, feather legged, small bantam breed. They have great big eyes that melt your heart. They are wonderful mothers and very affectionate birds. I absolutely adore them. I bought the eggs from baileysfjords on ebay. I ordered six eggs and they sent seven. Pretty good deal, I think. I wish we had more hatch, but not bad for our first time hatching natural.

Shari, good luck on the lambing. We usually lamb in April, so they can have the summer to grow. You probably don't have to worry about that where you are. I looked Beryl up on Mapquest. You truly are in the "middle" of nowhere. :o} My mom and dad are thinking about re-locating to the St. George area, but don't want to be in town. Is there any real estate for sell in your area?

Pictures to come.....still working on it.

How fun! New little chicks running around! I would love to have chickens but Doug vetoed that idea until we have land of our own. I guess it wouldn't be fun to be evicted because I had a coop in the backyard!

That's great, Sherone! I love Silkies. Once I get more chicken tractors built I'd like to get some. Maybe next spring. I have a bantam cochin sitting on some eggs right now. Most of the eggs are Rhode Island Red. My sister used to have a buff Silkie as a pet. She was so pretty!

Shari, good luck with the sheep. My last goat that gave birth bagged up over 2 weeks before the birth. I kept waiting... and waiting. I am still waiting on my mini horse. I'm starting to think maybe she's just fat!!

How fun!! I love it when I have new chicks WITH a hen especially!! I plan to let a couple of my banty hens (a couple are silkies) set on some eggs after the meat chickens are gone from that extra pen. They hatch a few out each year. This year I only ordered the meat chicks..but I need some little replacement layers each year..my flock ranges from almost a year old to 5 years old now...haha. I usually keep a new rooster every couple years. I love the one I have now. His name is Richard and he is a mottled cochin bantam.
Shari..lambing time is so fun and such a big surprize. What breed are your sheep, or are they mixed??

Way to go sherone!

I can only imagine how excited you must be. We ordered our chicks to arrive live, no time to incubate... need eggs (to eat) TODAY!

I'm pretty sure we have two pregnant ewe sheep... They really don't like me looking under their back-end for "bags and teats". I've seen two "bagging up".

If they lamb before August 5, their daddy was a ram from our neighbor's place. If they lamb after August 6, then their daddy is our ram, Algernon.
