Posted - Jul 19 2007 : 7:14:34 PM One of our Shelties escaped the backyard while we were gone today and got hit in the road. The lady stopped and carried him up to our house and banged on our door, then got our number off a truck we have for sale and called right when we got home. She felt really bad. I rushed him to the vet, but he said its too early to tell if he'll make it. He doesn't seem to have any broken bones, but he was in shock. The vet said that he'll know better in the morning when the drug he gave him for shock kicks in. He didn't seem to have any brain trauma either, the vet said his pupils were responding to light. I don't want to get my hopes up, though. Link is a really great dog and I pray that we don't lose him. Please think of him in your prayers. |

Posted - Jul 21 2007 : 03:48:43 AM Hi Heather
So sorry for your loss. I know how you feel. We don't have any children so when my dog was hit last year, it was so sad.
We also live on a dirt road-a dead end dirt road at that, and people still drive too fast!
I got a new pup a little after christmas and she has or had a very bad habit of chasing cars. A little training has helped, but I still grab her collar whenever I hear a car. |

Posted - Jul 20 2007 : 11:04:40 AM Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. The vet called me early this morning to tell me Link didn't make it through the night. My dogs are like my children too. We are about ready to move. People drive down our gravel road like it's a highway. We just lost one of our farm dogs a couple months ago. At least this person was nice enough to stop- the last person just kept going. Link was such a smart, friendly, beautiful dog. He was only a little over a year old. I had just started him on herding the goats and he loved it. I'm glad my kids are young enough to not understand what happened- though I know I will have to deal with that in the future. If we don't end up moving, we are probably going to fence in our entire yard and not just the backyard and not let our 2 big farm dogs run loose anymore. Thank you ladies for thinking of us. I know Link is up there with my grandma and my other dogs and cats that have passed having a good old time. |
