Posted - Jul 11 2007 : 8:45:24 PM Oh he's so pretty and sleek looking. I could see how Patsy wouldn't be too keen on him visiting the steer. Might scare me a bit, too.
Congratulations! He's a stunner!

Here he is after he went under the wire to visit our steer.Patsy was not too happy. We had to put up some more fencing so he can't get under it.
Here he is all worn out. It started getting too dark so it was hard to get some good pictures. He is doing well and Pasty is a good Moma. I could hardly work today I wanted to go out and see him. I feel so much better now.

Posted - Jul 10 2007 : 9:14:52 PM Oh Alicia..how exciting!! Congrats from Mona and me!!! I am so happy for you..both for the calf and that you get to keep Patsy. Mona's first calf was bigger than this years so I guess it isn't always smaller the first time...'course that was a bull calf and this was a heifer. Does the little guy have a name yet??? Try to get some sleep!!!

I am so glad that the calf was good sized then! I am not sure- but aren't maiden births usually smaller than normal? I hope she keeps having wonderful calves!

Posted - Jul 10 2007 : 7:46:24 PM Alee, Last year Patsy had a calf that was way too small and it died after 24 hours. I found out after Patsy was tiny herself and hubby was afraid she would have small calves all the time and we would have dificulty with them. So if this calf was too small I would have to get rid of her as an open cow. She was my first cow and spoiled rotten. I love her so much. I would have been heart broken. I cried when I saw how big this calf was and when he got up to nurse I cried again. I will be up many times tonight to make sure he is ok. But I promise pictures tomorrow!
