I just had to tell about our great day. My boys and I went to a friends house and played with their brand new goats. We are so excited because even though we dont have farm animals of our own, besides our horse sized St Bernard, we are going to get to be substitute goat herders and this weekend is our first on duty. My 7 year old is so excited, He has his own copy of Valerie Porter's Goats of the World. So we are quite excited. then we got to go and check on the water supply at the deer farm where my husband volunteers, he is out of town so we got his job. my older son 10 was the man of the farm , he opened all the gates and then opened my car door, no kidding!! the deer were so beautiful and the water supply was good. the fawns are loosing their spots. so we returned home to our dogs just delighted with our animal day. just wanted to share how much we enjoyed it.

the deer farm is a farm that raises deer for venison or selling to other farms for breeders. It is wonderful there, we go and help tag the fawns and feed the deer all year long. But the fawns are my favorite, Larry makes sure to take me when the new ones come and we get to hold them adn id what sex they are. I hate when they get tagged but then i get to comfort them. Within two days they get to scared of you but last year we had one who followed us when we fed. it was great. The fawns are so soft and usually smell like sunshine since they dont have a smell of their own.

Sounds like fun! I have neighbors that have goats and sheep and have offered to "kid-sit" while they were out of town. I can't wait!
