Posted - Jul 04 2007 : 08:11:35 AM We have quite a number of eagles around our area, we also have a nesting pair of Osprey. It's great that they are off the endangered list. Minnesota has the largest eagle population in the lower 48, I never get tired of watching the soar.

Posted - Jul 03 2007 : 7:33:31 PM We have them nesting in the area around where we live. It is fun to go sit on the side of the road and watch them. Out at the pond, they will swoop in and eat the fish we plant there for a little kids fishing derby in the spring. They are so cool. Lucky you. Except for the small children and young animal hazard. =)

Posted - Jul 03 2007 : 10:55:01 AM Michel.e, yes, they do return year after year.
Shannon, it's unfortunate from a farming standpoint that you've got these birds in your backyard. Dogs who chase birds may help. Scarecrows are sometimes effective, but for short periods of time. Young livestock, such as goats or lambs, should be kept indoors until they're large enough for the eagles to no longer consider them.
Chickens can be a problem; I've got friends who use flashing tape over their large outdoor pens, but not sure how effective it is. Anywhere you can, netting is best. In fact, if you can get some fish net and put it over a lamb pen that would be a good way to allow the young animals outdoors while keeping them safe.

Posted - Jun 30 2007 : 09:51:23 AM Fantastic! Hope all goes well. Do I remember correctly that once they really like a "homesite" that the happy couple will return and use it year after year? What a long time of enjoyment you have ahead of you. Keep us updated. Hope your critters adapt. Lots of cover?

Posted - Jun 29 2007 : 2:55:32 PM We have a pair in the woods and down the road in Conway right out in the open in a dying tree is a pair that has been there for 6 years that I know of. I have taken pictures and posted them but I am really too far away to really see anything interesting. The Skagit Valley here is also a wintering place for Bald Eagles and there are bunches from October to early April. Really neat to observe. Shannon what a neat deal for you. MB

Posted - Jun 29 2007 : 1:46:45 PM I tried to get a pic of her earlier, but my camera doesn't take good pictures from far away. About an hour ago she flew behind our house, I watched from the dining room window. I'll keep trying.

Aren't they specatcular?! I love bald Eagles! I was lucky enough to see them all the time when I was growing up. We had a pair nesting in a tree by our cabin for the longest time. I hope you let us know how the Eagle is doing from time to time! Wouldn't it be neat if it laid eggs and you had little eaglets in your back yard?
