After 2 years, beekeeping has finally paid off. We got our first honey harvest last week. Our hives produced 80 pounds of this wonderful golden nectar. My brother-in-law Mike spent hours spinning down the comb and then filtering the honey. I am so excited and the honey tastes yummy!! Good job Bee Haven Bees!!!!

A wonderful accomplishment, Bev! I can only imagine the feeling of accomplishment and relief and pride in your honey bees this year! And, the photo you posted just makes my mouth water! My dad's family raised honey bees in Toronto, Ontario during the Depression and I love hearing hist stories about the bees, the honey and the customers. His father was able to feed 5 kids plus extended family members quite well, on produce and meat that they traded for jars of their honey. Keep us posted on your business and when you will have enough extra honey to sell!

Congrats to the Bee Haven Bees! Your honey looks great!

We have bees too and while one hive may have lost its queen, the bees just moved next door and now the second hive is making honey faster than we can add supers. We're trying to find an extractor so we can harvest our honey as well... Must have been the never-ending crop of wildflowers this year!

I like to make furniture polish (for oil rub finish wood or unfinished wood) out of beeswax and I also like to make lotion out of it as well. You can even use beeswax to make soap! It is such a great substance! I love it!

The honey looks yummy, and I thought I heard and read that its a bad year for the little critters, not many around, glad to see they made a comeback.
I was looking at your store site and ordered an apron, it was just too cute to leave at your house, it needs to come to mine.

We are going to be able to harvest again in September. The hope is to eventually be able to sell. I suspect for now we will gift it and use it ourselves. Mike is in the process of trying to melt down the wax and find a purpose for that also.....He talked of candles....who knows. He is our beekeeper....and has many funny stories about these bees....I only wish I had gotten pictures when he was stung on the forehead...looked like something from Star Wars.....then as gravity had it's effect, he looked something more like a Shar Pei (one of those fat, wrinkly Chinese dogs).

Just seeing that photo makes me want to go make cornbread so I will have something to slather honey on! Of course I bet my honey from the store doesn't taste as good as your fresh stuff does!

Will you be selling once your bees start to produce more? I don't know how often you can "harvest" ( I am not a beekeeper!)...

We are very lucky right now.....last year we lost our bees. These are new hives for us that came from a retiring beekeeper at the end of the winter. They have had the spring and early summer to polinate our gardens, blueberries, orchard, etc. so they seem very healthy! We will say our prayers that they stay so.

It looks delicious, and what a pretty color! How are the bees doing...with the disappearance of bees lately, I just wondered. Anyway, they're doing a good job!

CONGRATULATIONS!! With so many bee keepers losing their hives, it's great to hear a success story! Long live your bees!

And, I just bought an apron, I just bought an apron. It's the cherry one on Bev's etsy site--and there's a picture of it on page 12 of the Apron Sew Along thread here. I just love it!
