Here are some quick pics.

The kids were so excited! So nice to not be suburban any more, to know our Postmaster (Cindy), who called at 7:00 a.m. to say the chicks had arrived. I took my 5 and 3 year olds to get our cheeping box. We ordered from McMurray, who would sex the breeds we wanted (we're vegetarian, so trying to keep the cockerels to a minimum), and there were two dead chicks in the box, unfortunately. A Cuckoo Maran and our sole Silver Grey Dorking, chosen by my oldest. I'm supposed to call tomorrow and give them our total chick mortality rate, but everybody else looks great. We're having waaaay too much fun naming them.

Any guesses what our exotic chick is? I'm thinking maybe Partridge Cochin?

They overnight ship them in batches of 25 or more as soon as they hatch.

They are visibly bigger already! And they're FAST! I can already tell who my bossy girls are, too. The hatchery said they could have some grass clippings a couple of times a day, and they make the biggest fuss over them, chasing each other around trying to steal blades of grass and making a ton of noise. It's hilarious.

How do you order them through the mail?? I've never heard of that before...

P.S. Good luck with them and we will all be expecting updates soon!
