Ok ladies, I need some help, my baby Mighty Mouse has a fox tail in his ear. I cant see it, aside from taking him to the Vet. Any advice? Thanks

Thank you so much for starting this topic. I've never heard of foxtails, and had no idea that they were so dangerous. I have cats with long hair and I'm going to make sure I watch out for these. Not sure if they grow in TX or not, but now I know what they look like just in case.

Thanks Ladies,I brought him in and gave him a bath, put some warm water in his ear left to pick up my son from church and he apparently got it out. He isnt crying or yelping anymore when I touch his ear. I called my brother in laws "flavor of the week" she is vet tech and was gonna bring me some solution and look at it for me, but he is okay now. Thanks again

Oops, sorry Amanda. I thought you could still see it. With a foxtail that you CAN'T see, a trip to the vet is unavoidable in my opinion. Once a foxtail works it's way in, an infection starts and it's very painful. Somehow, the vet can always get them out, no matter where they are...

Pull it out now, while you can still see it. That goes for eyes, ears, nostrils, between the toes, anywhere that a foxtail can find its way in. The longer you wait, the deeper it crawls and then you do need to go to the vet. Be careful that you get all of it as they can break into pieces if you just pull one or two hairs. Don't be squeamish when you pull it out, just pull it slow and steady. Irrigating the area with an antibiotic ear solution afterwards would be my recommendation and everything should be fine. Tweezers can help with hard to reach places.
