All is well, here on Kate's new tiny farm...
Our family of pets is multiplying...our Mama car Mia had a litter of five kittens just two weeks before we moved. The kitties are so fun and cute.

When we got settled into the house, I noticed that some of the birds that the former owners left (this was part of our sales agreement, they would have a few months to move thier stuff off of the back lot) didn't have access to sunshine or fresh air, well, this really bugged me, SO....I found a way to let the lone hen out...

She is our new pet...this funny little Rhode Island Red follows my kids around like she's a dog! She is the funniest bird! She especially loves Chloe who is just 4. Chloe carries her around, spreads her wings out, and fluffs her feathers. The bird just loves it! It is the wierdest thing...

I don't know alot about poulty yet, but I think it is pretty unusual for a chicken to enjoy being dragged around by a four year old!

My girls named her Gloria, which I feel is pretty fitting, she is a gloriously patient bird!

I will post a photo of Chloe and the bird tomorrow
Love and light to you all
Kate

How Fun! Could you girls hatch some chicks out of her? Maybe she would pass on the genes?

I have met Kate's Gloria and she is just the calmest hen ever!!! The kids
(mine included) aren't even gentle or quiet with her and she stays right in there..the golden retriever of the chicken world..made to be with kids!!! Maybe her being in "solitary" so long made her appreciate kids (or anyone) but gosh she is sweet. Pretty too!! A perfect RI Red.

I'll be Chloe just loves playing with the hen! And yes, it is a bit unusual.

One of my fondest memories as a child was visiting my great grandmother. I'd pester her till no end to come to the hen house with me and call Henrietta. Henrietta wouldn't come to me, but she loved Grossmutter and would come running out of that flock of white hens and jump in Grossmutter's lap where I could pet her.

At the Ranch I worked at, we had a hen that had Glaucoma in one eye. She loved following us humans around and being picked up. The other hens picked on her and since she couldn't see, she had a hard time finding food and water. We fed her and made sure she got water, especially towards the end when she was getting really ditzy. One morning we found her dead. I was really sad because I loved that crazy chick :)
