Years ago I lived about 25 miles out in the country and I loved to sit out in the mornings with my coffee and a good book. I had an Arabian filly who was more of a pet than anything and she roamed our property during the day when not in the corral.

So one day, I was watching a hummingbird (an 'HB' from now on cuz to type 'hummingbird' is way too much work) who seemed to be not all there upstairs. He (??) would buzz this and that and even trying to light on a branch he's miss it and tumble off the other side. He didn't fly straight, just kind of hit and miss.

Anywho, I had a windchime that had a big clapper hanging down, it was about 6 inches across and it was sort of above my head when I was sitting.

So one day my filly was kind of hanging out over my shoulder (a real no-no but hey...), I had my coffee and book and totally absorbed... and the HB came zipping by, hit the clapper, my filly had her nose almost in my lap and she jumped, I spilled my fresh cuppa down my front when I went UP and hit her in the nose, she hit the windchime, scared her and me....and the HB flew on unawares of the commotion left in his wake...

Oh, poor thing!! Yep, I have often thought that that HB I wrote of wasn't quite right in the head. Instead of flying in a straight line, he zipped up and down. Something surely happened to him somewhere.

My friend at work just brought some pictures of a hummingbird they have in their yard. Her son was home & the bird flew into their window & knocked himself out. Well my friend must have rubbed off on her son with her love of animals. He picked it up & brought it in for safety(they have several animals, cats included)& my friend wasn't home. He held it while it was passed out & took some photos for her. Also while holding it, he fed it from a feeder he brought in from outside. The bird just lay in his hand while it ate. He placed it in a fish tank that had a lid & once it was not so loopy, he set him free. I thought that was sweet of a 15 year old boy to do.

Wonder if the hummer was looking over his shoulder at you and the filly? :)

We make a difference.

He did sound funny didn't he? your little special needs Hummingbird!

i always liked Arabs too Winona..
I thought they had the sweetest personality..
My husband REALLY disliked them though.. & thought they were always a bit crazy.. Shows what he knows huh? I think he must have had a bad experience with one once maybe.. so he blamed it on the breed..
Something about their personality though.. they seemed to have that extra people intuition about them or something.. definatly more sensitive i thought..

Sorry you lost your girls..

Winona-

Funny story- but I do feel sorry for the poor little hummingbird. Sounds like he wasn't quite right in the head!

She was a sweetie... I lost her in my divorce and still miss her. She was more of a pet than anything. She and her dam are the reasons I love Polish Arabs now...after Appaloosas!

I think it was probably a good thing that bird flew by just about then..
Sounds like your big baby was about ready to doze off right into your lap!!

Cute story..
