Posted - Feb 09 2007 : 05:01:16 AM Hello IT!! Anyway to host a chat here on MJ's forum? I noticed there is a high volume stopgap in place here.
Some of us would like to have a cyber tea party. Any suggestions?
Thank you, Auntgeorge

Posted - Feb 10 2007 : 10:23:07 AM I have suggested a phone tea party before and there didnt seem to be much interest, and honestly, I take part in a monthly conference call with other Trust Birth facillitators and it is a little confusing with so many voices on the line...

Posted - Feb 10 2007 : 09:39:32 AM Hi Aunt George,
I have access to a conference line. Everyone is given the phone number and an access code and then call in at an appointed time. Not sure if you are interested in doing a phone tea party.

Posted - Feb 10 2007 : 09:19:25 AM Not to be a tea-party-pooper, but I've been told by several computer geek type people and have learned through personal experience that IM-ing is risky, virus-wise, and that a large number of computer problems stem from things passed that way.
For several years, we kept having computer problems. Nothing bad, just nagging things that dh kept having to repair. (THank goodness, that's what he does for a living) He kept complaining about the IM-ing but finally bought another cheap little computer at a garage sale for $20. He told the kids they could only IM on it. Sure enough, we've had not one single problem with the other computers since they stopped IM-ing. The kids kept having trouble with the other one, even though it worked great until they downloaded IM and started sending messages.
Fortunately, they started using their cell phones more and quit IM-ing. Since then, I've asked several computer techs if it was just us or if IM is an issue, and they've all said it certainly can be, that it opens your computer to lots of bad stuff.
That said, I'd love to have a place where we can chat "live". DH said the best thing is to open a chat room on a chat room provider.
Again, I don't mean to be negative, but I thought I'd share our experience.

Posted - Feb 09 2007 : 10:42:03 AM oh yeah! You can have big chats through messenger! I totally forgot about that! Everyone would have to have an invitation and have whichever of the messengers installed, but it completely works!

Posted - Feb 09 2007 : 10:17:17 AM Hi Aunt George! Since this forum IS a chatroom, you must be talking about having a "live" chat? I'm not too familiar with those, and it isn't something we're thinking about adding here due to time and resource restraints, but there is a place in your profile to say if you have "Instant Messaging" - I believe you can set up an account with Microsoft (or Yahoo or various other places) and then set up the other girls as "friends" and you'll be able to chat in "real time." Thanks and good luck! Carol
