The Farmgirl Connection bulletin board can be read by anyone. Anyone can post, as long as they register. To register, click the "Join in ... Sign up" link at the top left, or choose "Register" from the menu at the top right of each forum page.

You will be taken to a brief policies agreement page. To register, you must read and agree to the policies listed.

quote:
By pressing the "Agree" button, you agree that you, the user, are 13 years of age or over. You are fully responsible for any information or file supplied by this user. You also agree that you will not post any copyrighted material that is not owned by yourself or the owners of these forums. In your use of these forums, you agree that you will not post any information which is vulgar, harassing, hateful, threatening, invading of others privacy, sexually oriented, or violates any laws.

If we have people violating this agreement, it could result in a more tightly moderated forum, which would make things slower and ruin the experience for everyone. Let's keep this board light-hearted, friendly, and fun!

Once you complete the registration form, you will be sent a verification e-mail. After verifying by following the instructions in the e-mail, you will be able to sign in at any time to use the forum. The sign-in area is in the top right of every forum page.

To start a new post, first click on the category in which your post best fits. Choose "Start a New Topic," located in the center of the page, above (and below) the list of current topics.

You will then be taken to the posting screen. The only fields you need to fill in are Subject and Message, then press the "Post New Topic" button. There are other formatting options to choose from, at your discretion. (Please go easy on the smilies -- they're meant to help express things that don't come across in onscreen text, like emotions, facial expressions, tone of voice, etc. Overuse of them lessens their impact and becomes annoying. -- Also, typing in ALL CAPS should be reserved for times when you want to raise your voice or shout.)

An alternative to starting a new post is to simply reply to another post. When viewing the post you want to reply to, click the "Reply to Topic" link in the upper right, or click the little icon that looks like a piece of paper with a little arrow on it, located in the string of icons at the top of each post. This will insert a quote of the post you are replying to. You can edit this quote to include just the part you are replying to by deleting the unnecessary bits. Quoting can help clarify which part of the post you are replying to, but it's not necessary, especially if the post you are replying to is a short one. It's unnecessary to include long quotes, and can make the topic more difficult to read, so please keep it concise if you can.

You may notice signatures in people's posts. A signature is a little tagline some people choose to put at the end of their posts. This is not necessary, but if you want a signature, you can add one by clicking the "Profile" link from the menu at the top right of every forum page. The signature spot is the lower right box of the profile form. Use the "Preview" button to see what your signature will look like when you post. The signature will be applied to any new posts you make, but not to posts you've already made before you added the signature to your profile. Please keep signatures short and sweet.

You can view yours and other members' profiles by clicking on the member name anywhere it appears. You may notice some members have photos in their profiles. If you have your own website or server space where you can upload images, you can upload an image and insert the link to that image in your profile. (This is just for fun -- if you don't have means of putting your picture up, you don't have to. If you want to give it a try but don't have server space, you can search for free image servers using Google or your favorite internet search engine.)

The automatic size for profile images is 150 pixels by 150 pixels. If your image is a different size, it will automatically be squished to fit into those dimensions, but anyone can click on the picture to view it in its actual size. Please keep pictures small so they load quickly.

There are other features that you may want to use. Many of them can be discovered by holding your mouse cursor over any icons displayed in the forum. A little text box should pop up to explain what each icon does.

Happy posting!

Clicking on a member's name will take you to their profile page. If they have a photo in their profile, you'll see it there.

How do I look at pictures in the profiles?

Ask and ye shall receive, darlin'! As your happy administrator, I can assign titles to replace the default "Farmgirl at Heart" rating titles. This can also be useful for boys, who don't necessarily want to be a "Farmgirl at Heart." I will consider all reasonable requests :)

OK, I understand the rating system as far as the "farmgirl at heart".... But how do we get worker bee status. Since I work here on the farm I think that is more me.

That would be a great use of color

What happens when you click on a formatting option, like bold, italics, or a font color, is the code comes up in the text box. Forum code looks like this: [codeword] text you want formatted[/codeword]

The codeword tells the forum how to format your text -- it will be a font name or a color or bold or whatever you choose. There's two codewords in brackets -- the first one says "start applying this formatting" and the second one says "finish applying this formatting and go back to regular text." So anything you put in betweenthe codewords in brackets will have that formatting applied.

If that's a little confusing, try typing out the text first, then use your mouse to highlight the part you want to format, then click the formatting button you want to use. It will automatically insert the codewords around the text you have highlighted. You can click the "Preview" button to see what your post will look like with formatting applied.

I hope that helps, and happy posting!

Hey Sarah,
This is too much fun! You've done a great job!
I'm having some trouble with the font and color. When I click on it the title of the font or name of the color pops up in my text? Am I doing something wrong? I was going to do my "craving green" text in... green. Pretty clever, huh?!
