Hi,

I still can't get a photo to post even though I have followed your detailed instructions. The best I can do is post a link to the photos. My husband who is very computer literate can't get it to work either. Can you help?

Thanks,
Judy

Oh brother, do I feel stupid!! Had to set up a photobucket account and look at the coding to see what was what, but all it is, is an image command. The instructions as posted state you need two commands, which didn't make sense but I was doing it because it said to do it. Turns out it is simply an image command, "img", your photo link, "end img" but geesh that's not how it's explained in the posting!!! Just thought I would post that in case anyone else wants to avoid the pitfalls and security issues of photobucket.

Having to use yet another photo hosting site really blows. I have created a dozen or so web pages from scratch and I do not understand the instructions; they don't correlate to anything I even saw before. I use Flicker and have never had to use anything else but apparently there are other things you have to do to that code to make it work here, I just can't figure it out and it is driving me NUTS that I cannot get it. That must be why so many have such a hard time! I still haven't decided whether I want to forgo pics or open a photobucket account, I HATE that site lol. Big hugs to anyone who doesn't even do coding, I would think it impossible to post photos if you aren't a comp genius or something :)

Thanks, Gabe. Next time my husband has a few minutes to spare, I'll ask him to try what you said. Otherwise, I'll take your suggestion of e-mailing the application and sending the photos.

That's good news, that you got it to work!

For the Merit Badges, perhaps the image sizes are too big? They don't need to be any bigger than 5 inches / 360 pixels on the widest size.
That should upload almost as well as any web page in general will download (upload is slower than download, but many web pages have multiple photos of the size I refer to above).

If you're able and it seems to be the issue, try downsizing the photos, then resubmitting. Make sure it takes you to the Thank You page, or it didn't submit properly, and you'll have to try again.

If that doesn't work, but each individual image is less than 10 MB (10,000 KB), then you can email them to meritbadges@maryjanesfarm.org (although that has a potential for failure, also, if your connection is untrustworthy). Each email should contain no more than 10 MB worth of images.

Otherwise, yes, go ahead and just mail copies of the photos in to us. You could just submit the rest of the badge itself online still, and we'll just pair it up with the photos once we receive them.

Hey Gabe,

Thanks for your help. We had a chance to sit down and work on it yesterday. We can now post photos on the forums. We're still having problems with posting for the merit badges, however, but that's due to our poor wireless signal - it times out before it uploads. Can I just send in my applications with photos?

Thanks again.

Judy

Interesting about the large images, brightmeadow.
I might think that it would take a long time for large photos to download (thus appearing that they don't show up), if it's large file size-wise (1 MB or 1000KB +). If it simply has large dimensions, but isn't so big memory-wise, then perhaps there is a limit on the scale of images for the chatroom. I haven't run across any, but I haven't really been looking, either.

patchworkpeace,
did it work yet?

I use Photobucket and then click their image code and paste it here. Never had a problem. . . .

Are you trying to post from flickr? Because flickr has changed things on their end and just clicking on the picture to get the URL no longer works(one will show up but when you try to link it doesnt work). If that is what you are trying to do let me know and I will tell you the extra steps. Its not hard you just have to go somewhere else to get the appropriate URL.

Thanks! My husband is home today so I'm going to run this by him and see if he can get it working. If we can't, I'm going to take you up on your offer to do the image code for us, Gabe. Thanks again!

I find I can post photos that are "small" or "medium" if they are hosted on my google blog, but if they are "large" they won't show up on MJF.

Don't know why, it seems crazy, but that's how it works...

Let's see. When I often have troubles with it myself, and when I do, it's normally because I keep trying to write IMG="http://photourl" inside the square brackets, rather than just IMG alone inside the square brackets.
Other things to check:
Make sure the URL is good, of course. Easily checked by pasting it directly into your browser, everything from http:// to .jpg or whichever image file type (like .gif, .bmp, etc)
Make sure not to include any of the additional "quotes" (< or > or " or ') or anything that I might use to demonstrate what should go where.
All that goes between the IMG tags is the URL.

Some of my initial thoughts that might help a bit more. Probably things your husband thought of, though, too.

Perhaps email me the URL, patchworkpeace, and I could email back the correct tags that you would paste directly into the chatroom (since they're the wrong code for email, they don't display in an email).

Hi Judy. Sorry you're having problems posting photos! I know Gabe's directions work - lots of farmgirls have posted photos by following his detailed instructions. Find those at
http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6290. I'm afraid I don't have anything else to add to them.
Good luck!
Carol
