i can use the computer, but i am not really computer savy....i dont always see the big picture.
so what i was wondering is , i dont usually go back and houseclean my subscriptions, they just sit there forever, would it be better if i periodically go in and delete old subscriptions, or does that really matter to the site?

It doesn't matter at all - you can leave them sitting there, then if someone finds your posts and replies later, you'll see it.
