Posted - Dec 26 2006 : 08:44:37 AM What are some of your favorite candle scents?
I am going to really get back into making my candles and tarts for 2007. I had took somewhat of a break, due to other events in my life. But I have decided that for 2007, I am going to start back to really working on getting this going as a side business.
Also do you prefer all-natural candles made with essential oils (more expensive) or rather have fragrance oils that are less costly and have more scents to choose from?
Also do you think it is better to have your own website or use etsy, ebay, etc..?
Look out farmgirls, here comes the candles.

Posted - Dec 26 2006 : 4:02:48 PM Hi, Bridge - I have to say, I, too, prefer waxes like beeswax and soy, and most fragrance oils give me a headache - however, I DON'T get headaches from essential oils, so my vote would be there! My absolute favorites, however, are beeswax candles with no additional scent added. There is something about that honey-wax scent that I just love...

Posted - Dec 26 2006 : 1:15:51 PM You are much more limited to scents by using the essential oils. But they have the true aroma-therapy effects, since they are from the natural herbs, spices and such. I’ll post the list of essential oil scents, and what I currently have in fragrance oils. I am getting ready to order a few items and wanted to see what my farmgal friends enjoyed..
I make soy candles, with hemp or cotton wicks. I try to use recycled glass containers that I have been given or have thrifted, this improves the environmental impact. My votives, burn in a standard straight sided votive glass, this gives the best burn out of the votives. I also make tea lights, and I recycle the little tins/plastics that they are in. I am working out the details of a trade in program on the containers…………I still have to work on the details a little bit more. The one thing with Soy candles is that you must burn them in a container. The wax is much much softer. (I used to make regular candles, I made hundreds and hundreds of the "cake" candles, but then I realized that I didn’t want to increase our oil usage problem, and Soy wax is a much more environmentally friendly wax to use.

Posted - Dec 26 2006 : 12:50:50 PM My fave is McIntosh Apple!! Any kind of clean outdoors scent like that. Fresh cut grass. Linen. All natural is great.
It may be more expensive for natural, but I think for our health it is better to be as natural as possible. I don't think there have been any candles with those scents I have found that are natural, but would be willing to spend the extra. |

Posted - Dec 26 2006 : 12:49:37 PM I honestly probably wouldn't know the difference, but I am attracted to seeing "all natural", with that said here are the scents I like, which may or may not be "all natural"! cinnamon, apple/spice Pumpkin balsom,

Posted - Dec 26 2006 : 12:00:57 PM I've heard a saying 'put out the best seed to attract the best birds'.....the better quality ingredients you use, the more attractive your candles will be to a larger audience, perhaps. I too love the balsam pine fragrance, eucalyptus, lavender...maybe lighter scents for warmer months, since certainly fewer people burn candles then. Do you make soy candles, beeswax, as well as the traditional candles? LOTS of success to you!! Nance |
